Fear wasn't something Maddox handled easily. Anger was an entirely different story as he had practiced for years and years to be able to control it to some degree. Mixing the two together was a potion for disaster. He had been doing fine all day. Not really, but on the outside. Internally he couldn't control the feelings brewing inside him. People were missing. Maddox knew what it was like having the people close to him disappear. He'd searched for the ghouls until he ended up trapped with them. He was scared and he wouldn't admit it. What if one of them went missing? What if he couldn't protect them? He already felt like a let down just thinking about it. At least he wasn't alone. Alone, what a funny word to him. As many people as he had around him one would think he wouldn't feel so lonely. He'd done his best to try and keep his cool all day, but by early afternoon he already had steam coming from his nostrils. His breaking point came in the form of getting into his car and realizing the dinner he'd ordered to go was completely wrong. The last thing he remembered was screaming and smashing his fists on his steering wheel before he ended up in the woods.
Maddox had thought walking through the trees and letting out his frustrations would make him feel better but the further he rage blindly walked the worse he felt. At one point he came to a small clearing and just stopped. He felt so stupid but he'd had so much on his mind, and with everything going on he had even less hope of ever getting home. Did it matter at this point? Did anything matter? Maddox didn't know but instead he just stared at the small stream that ran through the clearing. His eyes focused on it and he finally just screamed out "fuck!" as loud as he could. As the word erupted from his throat flames ignited on the palms of his hands. Flames he seemed to have no control over conjuring. He was shaking, pissed off from every small thing that went wrong throughout the day and angry at the world. He tried to focus on the fire but his anger levels were off the charts. Small flames started engulf fallen branches and the leaves that came with them. Maddox knew if he didn't focus he wouldn't be able to kill the fire. He tried to breathe but he never kept his eyes off the flames that started to grow. His heart was pounding a million miles a minute. Shaking hands raised and tried to focus on gaining control over the flames again. He could feel the temperature in the air around him rising, not from the fire but from his inability to control his abilities.
His thoughts were still racing no matter how hard he focused. Eyes that glowed orange were glued to the flames, finally managing to just be able to get the flames to move in the direction of the stream when he heard something. His focus was gone and his head turned to see a silhouette. He looked between the flames then back to the person he'd briefly seen before catching a glimpse of her face. His anger felt like it started all over again and the fire started to grow again, wind blowing it in the opposite direction he'd tried to force it to go. Despite it he was frozen in place, staring at someone who was was just temporary bliss for him. What the hell was he supposed to say as flames still rested on his hands and were growing taller behind him. He just stared at her, trying to think of something to say when he impulsively just yelled out, "why the fuck did you have to come here and make my day even worse?!"
