Henri was the first person in Nowhere Ines hadn’t known in the brief, fiery summer they spent there in 1989 — so they’d embrace this new connection with open arms. It was nice to know someone who didn’t engage in a short-lived romance with them, or act so abrasively for undisclosed reasons.
“I spent the summer here in 1989…the first time around,” Ines admitted, “So this homecoming probably isn’t exactly well received. I didn’t really leave on the best of terms, after all.”
“Huh, it’s a small town, I’m surprised I didn’t see you around.” Henri raised her eyebrow, leaning in slightly, her tendency to gossip hadn’t left her in all of these years; something about that was comforting. At least it seems to be more acceptable in her twenty-four year old body. “You didn’t? Pray tell, if it makes you feel any better, I didn’t know your name, so it’s not like you’ve been floating around my friendship circle being bitched about.”
