Athletes to follow today (all times Eastern):
Chaunte Lowe This year's women's world indoor champion finished tied for second in the high jump qualifying rounds but, the American appears to have a gold medal well within reach. The finals begin at 2:00 p.m.
Mo Farah The British long-distance runner won over the home fans when he took gold in the men's 10,000-meter run last week, and now he can double down (if he can once again hold off his American training partner, Galen Rupp) in the finals of the 5,000-meter run at 2:30 p.m.
Caster Semenya With the controversy over her gender no longer important (albeit perhaps still ongoing), the South African can grab some good headlines by winning gold in the women's 800-meter run at 3:00 p.m.
Sanya Richards-Ross The women's 400-meter dash gold medalist leads the Americans in the finals of the 4x400-meter relay at 3:25 p.m. (on NBC in primetime)
Usain Bolt The fastest man in the world will try to sweep golds in all three of his events as long as he and his fellow Jamaicans are all up to the task of staving off the pesky Americans in the finals of the men's 4x100-meter relay at 4:00 p.m. (on NBC in primetime)
Diana Taurasi She led the scoring with 15 points in the U.S. women’s basketball team’s most recent meeting with France, an 81-60 victory in 2010. Now the countries meet again in the gold medal match at 4:00 on NBC.

Athletes to follow today (all times Eastern):
Ashton Eaton In the lead after day one, the American and world record-holding decathlete will complete his gold medal quest with the 110-meter hurdles (4:00 a.m.), discus throw (4:55 a.m.), pole vault (7:55 a.m.), javelin throw (1:30 p.m.), and 1500-meter run (4:20 p.m.).
Chaunte Lowe After winning the women's high jump at the World Indoor Championships, the American begins her third Olympics with the prelims at 4:30 a.m.
Oscar Pistorius After failing to reach the finals in the men's 400-meter dash, the South African has another shot in the 4x400-meter relay, which begins its prelims at 6:35 a.m. (airing on NBC at 12:15 p.m.)
Diana Taurasi She led the scoring with 24 points in the U.S. women’s basketball team’s most recent meeting with Australia. Now the countries meet again in the semifinals at noon on NBCSN.
Alex Morgan She and Alex Morgan each scored two goals in the U.S. women's soccer team's last meeting with Japan, a 4-1 victory, but that was a friendly. This gold medal match at 2:45 on NBCSN will have an intensity more matching Japan's victory in penalty kicks following a 2-2 tie; funnily enough, both those goals also came from Morgan and Wambach, though Morgan also had an assist.
Carmelita Jeter After her silver medal in the women's 100-meter dash, she seeks to help her Americans win gold in the 4x100-meter relay, which begins with the prelims at 3:20 p.m.
