CRABBING. Fabulously frugal family fun! I must admit, that maybe rather shockingly, I have never been crabbing before the other day. But I am a total convert, and we had so much fun! All we needed were the following: *crabbing lines - we bought ones with a little bag on to place the bait, so no dangerous hooks were required. *a bucket to put the crab caught into - we used a collapsible bucket which worked perfectly, although you can get clear containers specifically for catching crabs. *some bait - we used a cheap packet of bacon which worked amazingly well. *a good place to find crabs, near you! *Patience... although we did not have to wait long to start catching our crabs! We bought our crabbing lines for £1.49 each, and our bacon for £1, and easily spent a good 3-4 hours crabbing. Not a bad investment if you ask me! Plus, we have the equipment to use for next time too. And, in case you were wondering, we caught 21 crabs between the 6 of us. Not bad, right? And to top it off, it was an excellent opportunity for teaching animal care and compassion, water safety skills, patience, and to spend time bonding as a family.
