Sailor Moon Crystal: PSA
I've noticed that ever since the newly released concept art for the inner senshi for SMC has come out that people are expressing their distaste for it. Perfectly fine of course, but then i see them compare it to the old style of the anime and how "that one is way better"
Hold up here.
That's not a fair comparison. and let me explain to you why. Please take a look at this picture:
Starting from left to right we have the Old Anime style Sailor Moon, in the middle we have Naoko's Manga Style Sailor Moon, and on the right we have Sailor Moon Crystal's Sailor Moon Character reference picture.
I'm going to start with the 90s anime Sailor Moon. Most people like her because she's Sailor Moon! The Champion of Justice! And in the Name of the Moon She will Punish You!! Like how you've probably remembered it from your childhood. I know i used to pretend i was Sailor Jupiter and my best friend was always sailor moon and we'd play pretend together. Those are some of my fondest memories with her. So how i see it 90's Anime Moon brings forth the Nostalgia in the fans. Something Familiar that we've always known. We watched through the Monster of the Week episodes, we watched through the heartbreaking finales and all the movies. We've grown attached to this version because she's the only anime version we know.

Sailor Moon Crystal is coming in and people are saying that they don't like the new style. But i'll still bet my left toe that everyone who says that will still be glued to their computers to watch the NicoNico world wide broadcast in July. And Yeah, the new style isn't to everyones preferences, which is fine. But guys remember that this is the REFERENCE SHEET NOT THE ACTUAL ANIMATION!!!
Onto The "style" of Sailor Moon Crystal. From what i've seen and read the animators for SMC have tried to play it more towards Naoko's Manga style sailor moon, giving them Longer legs and more flowy skirts and even making some of the scouts fukus vary. I think it is unfair to compare SMC to the Old Sailor Moon Anime is because the Old Anime is VERy 1990's and i know only 90s kids remember the 1990s, but realize that animation has taken leaps and bounds from that time. The Old anime is VERY indicative of 90's animation and the new style shows off more of the trends that have been becoming popular in modern anime shows like precure and such. And Even though SMC is influenced more by Naoko's manga style than the 1990s anime was it is very clear that it will not be bogged down by 1990s animation woes (like fuku variations in the scouts can actually be seen now rather than a uniform look) I personally am very excited to see the new anime coming out as it means i get to make new memories watching it to go along with the old ones that i still treasure very very much.
In conclusion:
Its nostalgia to love the old anime, there is nothing wrong about that. But its also unfair to judge the new anime when we haven't even seen the animation yet. She's still Sailor Moon, and we're all still excited and we're all still going to watch the premier when it comes out. So don't bash it down too hard and try giving it a chance! Who knows you might like it :D
