Chelsea v Dortmund
What. A. Match.
Honestly, the first 10 minutes into the game, I was absolutely stunned by how well Chelsea was playing; they wanted this win almost as bad as they needed it. As much as people slammed Potter, I have to root for the man at this point; the method to his madness is shining through as Chelsea upstages Dortmund.
Though the match was not perfect, two missed shots from Havertz did sting. It was close. Players like Enzo, Sterling, and Felix had magnificent touches on the ball: placement, form, and precision were all there. They read through defenders and calculated breakaways down to the T; as we saw with Sterling's many opportunities ,though he is just a bit too fast as the offside flag went up. The potential for Joao Felix is absolutely there; we would all be blind not to see it; his pressure in the first half of the match was exactly what the team needed to continue making technical plays that opened up opportunities. Similar to Enzo, who was relentlessly dividing himself between attacking mid and defending mid. Though when we shoved, Dortmund shoved back, it was a tough match.
Despite it all, our attackers played the way we had all been itching to see. We applaud Sterling, who pushed us forward, and Havertz, who sealed the deal. As for defending, it was no surprise to see Cucurella get player of the match; his aggression and accuracy made for an exciting combination tonight as he put himself on the front lines for the team. Not much to say other than wonderfully executed defending. Also, not a surprise to see Ben Chilwell laying himself on the line for the team. Pretty sure that's a close fight for him in almost every match , but he's dedicated. I enjoy watching Ben play every game; his spirit remains high until the end.
Christian Pulisic also appeared on the pitch again after being out on injury, which was exciting to see. He is doing very well, and hopefully, we can see him out on the pitch more often; his dynamic with Felix and Havertz could make for an exciting lineup as each of them work well in creating on target shot opportunities.
Dortmund was caught off guard by the way Chelsea began the match, not used to the blues' pressure, considering they were the aggressors in the previous match. As a Chelsea fan, I can not say much. I can understand the frustrations that came with Havertz getting the second penalty. To shame their playing would be a lie; they played brilliantly. Gio Reyna coming in so early in the game, not knowing if he would have come in at all, was something Dortmund did not plan, but he gave an outstanding performance and kept up well with his teammates and opponents. His cross pass to Bellingham would have been dangerous for Chelsea had Bellingham gotten there in time. Hopefully, Dortmund will give him more playing experience as he appears to hold lots of promise. Jude Bellingham is a very talented, and watching him is always special; he controls the pitch as a versatile player. I am certain wherever he goes during this summer trade period will do him well.
Both teams played with their hearts out on that pitch, and it was a joy to watch. Chelsea will enter the quarter-finals, hoping for that back-to-back champions league title.
Lets go blue!!
the chelsea team just feels very poorly conceived. the purchasing habits seem to solely be based on which player is trending and a fear of players receiving offers from other clubs as opposed to who truly works within the system.
it's been this way for many years now to the extent that none of the players really seem to have chemistry on the pitch because there is no clear vision as to how they should work together. there isn't just an odd one or 2 out, its just a big jumble. it's a shame cos its leading to an entire squad of talented players rotting away in what should be their prime years.
i honestly just feel bad for the players at the end of the day. they come into the club thinking that the coaching is going to know what to do with them, that they were chosen for a reason and they end up arriving to complete chaos and confusion.
Agreed!
I know Felix is with us on loan but he is a great example of a trending player. As much as we love him I do not think Chelsea was the best match for him right now. I think he needed to get more experience before coming on, to really feel comfortable with his style of play and confident enough in his shots.
It honestly is such a shame that clubs, especially Chelsea, gain players through this method because they let young talented players rot on the bench and think they are not good enough right in their mid 20s. I think Ziyech, Mount, Puli, Havertz are all great but the fans and managers are pulling away from them; it is such a sad sight because at one point they were the face of the team. I can not blame the first three for leaving this summer, however it will be so sad to see.
At the end of the day the players are not the issue, the coaching staff is. We need someone to bring Chelsea together and really focus on ways to make each player reach their maximum potential, if we can achieve that than Chelsea will be looking like an unstoppable team.
I hope we can make a comeback.
Thank you for sharing!!

Thoughts on Chelsea
Chelsea has lost their last three matches (Wolves, Real Madrid, and Brighton) only scoring once in those matches combined.... so these are my two points on why Chelsea is struggling.
Team Chemistry
This is the main reason Chelsea can not win a match right now. It is not to say the players don't like each other, but it seems that on the pitch, they have not found a way to work as a unit. They do well when bringing the ball down, but when it comes to managing to score, they can not read their teammates. We don't even have to search far for an example; today, when James made a beautiful cross pass, no one was there to knock it in. Moments like that, where they cannot read how the play will unravel, is why Chelsea is on their losing streak. Each player holds raw individual talent, but if they need help finding a way to work together and read the pitch, Chelsea will look at more losses in the future. They lack passion and ambition as they run the pitch, the lack of conference is extremely clear in so many players (especially Mason Mount) Not to mention the amount of change and drama surrounding the team right now, it can not be good for overall moral. But media and controversy is unavoidable in football, the team needs to stick together more than ever in times like these.
Strategies
It looks like they have none. While other teams look very uniform, and each player follows through with the task dedicated to their position, Chelsea players look like they are running around just trying to find a way to score. When they play in such a manner, it leaves opportunities for other clubs to slip through the cracks and score; we saw this consistently in our match against Real Madrid; if it weren't for Kepa's astounding saves, we would have lost by much more. We need to develop a more controlled form of playing on the pitch, a philosophy where we look more technical in our passes and shots. The simple parts of playing football seem to be so difficult for us to follow through on. It feels like they do not learn from their mistakes, and I constantly have to write about the same issues repeatedly because no progress has been made.
I truly hope we can manage to get it together by Tuesday's Match against Real Madrid! It would be a shame to lose it all in London.
How do you guys feel about our recent performances?
Chelsea v Tottenham
This proved quite the match; tensions rose quickly amongst the players as we witnessed our fair share of fights and mouth-offs. It's fair to say Chelsea was not meant to win this one, as Tottenham came into the second half with level heads and a match to win.
However, I do believe Chelsea could have at least scored or closed the leading gap. While I was intrigued by Sterling, Felix, and Ziyech leading the front three, Mudryk starting the first half and getting replaced by Sterling at the start of the second may have been more effective. We all saw Mudryk come on at the 83 and attempt to create scoring opportunities for the team. If they had started with this confident energy, it is possible that their game would have been less hostile and more technical and controlled.
Despite solid attempts from players like Havertz and Felix, there was nothing more they could have done to change the course of the game. With Silva getting out on injury just 18 minutes into the match, it felt like we were doomed from the start, not to mention Ziyech's red card (which was taken away). Also, with Kane ramming into Kepa and not getting a penalty called, it was only natural that the team's frustration rose, and plays became less about winning for the game itself and more about getting an advantage over Tottenham.
Players like Chilwell and Mount really proved their true blue mentality as shirts were pulled and taunting names were being yelled; let's avoid the cards, though, guys.
I will forever be patient with this team and support their choices, even if we lose. Tottenham played a fantastic match today; I applaud Son for that beautiful corner.
Today was not our day, but we have time to make a comeback before next week's game against Leeds.
Hopefully, Thiago is ok<3
