Hey! So I just started this account to share my love with chemistry, and I decided to share a few things about myself. I am currently taking a chemistry class and am fascinated by the subject, which prompted me to make this account to share the tidbits of amazing facts I learn along the way!
Wanna know where neon signs get their light from? The light is a result from electrons moving from the excited state to the ground state. When the electron is exposed to energy, it moves to a greater energy level, and when it moves to the ground state, it releases energy in the form of light (an ideal example of conservation of energy!)
Ever wondered why water couldn't wash off your grease stains? This is because water is a polar molecule (meaning that it has charged poles) and grease is a non-polar molecule (evenly distributed charges). Only non-polar molecules can dissolve non-polar molecules, which is why soap is commonly used to wash off stains, because soap is composed of non-polar molecules.
