this one’s kind of hard bc im both rlly picky abt the books i read and lit do not even have the time to read everything i want to read, so i know a bunch of books that fit this trope in theory but nothing im comfortable recommending bc i havent actually read any of it. so some books that i feel like very Vaguely fit the metamorphosis trope more than the shapeshifter trope would be the bell jar by sylvia plath and invisible monsters by chuck palahniuk. BUT there are a bunch of comics that have shapeshifters in them/metamorphosis themes, so my recommendations in that regard would probably be like ms marvel (2014-current)

um ok so i actually rlly like son lux for this theme, esp all of the stuff he’s putting out for his new album, specifically change is everything and flight, though a lot of son lux’s stuff tends to remind me of this theme a lot.

ive also been listening to a bunch of hanni el khatib’s stuff today and they struck me as very like. Werewolf-y in a way that wasnt explicitly supernatural but just kind of struck me as like. Im Just A Guy Living My Life As A Werewolf. moonlight is especially like this.

god ok im not a big Movie Watcher so nothing is rlly coming to mind for this trope atm. the one thing i can think of is orphan black which is 1) a tv show and 2) more about clones than shapeshifters, but it does have some metamorphosis themes at times
