Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu is inundated with this years most devastating Rainfall. Millions have lost their livelihood, belongings and homes.... Children, Old people,animals are the most who have suffered. There's news of over 280 deaths.

It's time we all join hands and take a step together to secure our neighbor's step and enable them to regain their Confidence..  Natural calamities are our uninvited guests. We cannot avoid it but yes, we can all join hands and do our little bit for our Neighbors - Chennai. The government machinery has started to kick in. Water has been pumped out. Food is being distributed on a large scale by the govt & basic supplies such as mats, blankets, soap, mosquito coils etc are being actively distributed by a number of organizations. We are now focusing on the next phase of rehabilitation & are in discussions with colony residents as well as other groups working on relief efforts to put together a short & medium term plan to assist the residents in putting their lives back together. So we are not longer distributing food packets & will stop distribution of relief materials after our current inventory is exhausted.

Things we need

The need at the moment is to make sure that the necessities are available to them. We are putting together kits and are targetting 1000 kits in total. To assemble these, we require the following items

1. Soap (100gm bars) - 2000 nos. 2. Bleaching powder (250gm packets) - 1000 nos 3. Mosquito Coils (box) - 1000 nos 4. Matchboxes (box of 50 sticks) - 2000 nos 5. Candles - 5000 nos 6. Towels - 2000 nos 7. Bedsheets - 2000 nos 8. Plastic sleeping mats (paais) - 2000 nos 9. Toothbrush - 2000 nos 10 Toothpaste - 1000 nos 11. Coconut oil (100ml bottles) - 1000 nos  (to apply to skin before wading through water) 12. Milk powder (400gm boxes) - 1000 nos 13. Children's clothes  - 2000 sets 14. Plastic bags to carry all of the above - 1000 nos

7th December Update

We distributed food (3200 packets) street by street in the neighbourhood yesterday (7/12) 

This photo was taken at Kalakshetra foundation where volunteers helped prepare over 5000 packets of food. The volunteers at Kalashetra have been preparing food for the last week and have prepared over 5 lakh packets per day across 70 kitchens in the city.
