Stephanie Brown: What brings you joy in life?
Damian Wayne: Do you believe people can change?
Bilal Asselah: What is your escape in life?
Children were such naive, innocent and vulnerable precious little things. It made his heart glad, although he would never admit it so easily, to see them… as annoying as they usually are. They were still untainted by the selfish and cruel mindset people would grow into. He didn’t even need to scare them, oh no. Tell them of the horrible boogeyman or of monsters in closets and they will believe. They do not question fear, even when the occassional rambunctious tyke goes for false bravado.
Of course, the child he treasured most was his lovely little Cherolyn, his mon Cher petit. She was his little princess, no matter how the cliche the notion was. Jonathan would protect his darling daughter and, of course, his darling husband Edward with everything he has. And, for the love of all things good, he hoped he would never fall to the Scarecrow’s puppeteering ever again. Jonathan has worked too hard, for too long to fall back into a life of crime.
If only the medicine would help. They never do, not for long, as he grows immune to their drugs. The Scarecrow’s screaming grows louder and louder by the day and it makes his blood cold as ice. He fears. He fears he will hurt his family if he loses control over his own body. Yet, he continues to pretend, puts on a mask for them; he is used to masks…
Edward was his king, Cherolyn his little princess and Jonathan… he was the knight. The Scarecrow was the monster, the dragon he had to slay if he wanted his happily ever after.
