Pairing: Roman Reigns + Melissa Boyd - Original Female Character
Summary: Despite everything, I can’t stay away from you…
===============
2026
Though booked as Universal Champion again, fan favorite Cody Rhodes wouldn’t take charge. With “Friday Night Smackdown,” General Manager Nick Aldis worked on television, but someone else really pulled strings.
Melissa Boyd. Now helping staff members backstage, this intelligent and sharp woman nearly anchored shows, even while not fighting in the ring. Without immediate logistics and marketing, episodes can’t start at all.
Not only had Boyd studied journalism in college, but her impressive resume and networking skills led support for many reasons around here, especially with the rise of social media. Viewership determined everything.
Through each passing moment that occurred, “Smackdown” would’ve dropped without Melissa and everyone knew it.
Wearing his dress shirt with suspenders and matching slacks, Cody strolled another hall on the road as professionals moved backstage. Cameras hadn’t rolled yet, but time dwindled more and more. Every second counted.
In the midst of organised chaos, Cody looked over to see three other women entering this same corridor. Jade Cargill, Michin and B-Fab already showed up here, designed between pomp or arrogance as a faction.
With Jade texting, Cody doesn’t think twice until new footsteps clicked toward the large hallway. Within seconds, Cargill smiled genuinely through another round of badass makeup and swung this high ponytail.
Turning the corner, Melissa is here.
As Jade offered this gentle hug, fluorescent lights brightened Melissa’s dark skin. Right here, brown eyes revealed joy as she joined friends, truly content. Despite all the hard work, Melissa wouldn’t stop grinning, thankful.
“Ready for the show?” Melissa encouraged all three of them.
“Always!” Jade, B-Fab and Michin cheered together.
“Good.” Melissa nodded, bidding farewell as the schedule would move along. “See ya’ll around.”
_____
Still occupied here, Melissa paused and noticed Cody in person for the first time since arriving.
“Hello.” Rhodes isn’t stupid, cordial enough to address her without pulling small like an idiot.
“Hello, Cody.” Melissa accepted the greeting now, but her smile dimmed and proved less enthusiastic than anything with Jade Cargill. “Best wishes tonight.”
“Thank you.” Cody nodded, just grateful for the encouragement. Unlike so many people, at least Melissa is decent enough to welcome others.
Just when their small talk may continue, different voices began to echo:
“Sis!”
At least three members of The Bloodline almost swarmed Melissa.
With “King of the Ring” planned this year, Jey Uso booked one of the tournament matches after joining “Raw” and twin brother Jimmy followed, looking out no matter what. On the other hand, Jacob Fatu handled “Smackdown” for some time at this point, still running through mayhem.
But right now, drama wouldn’t hit the airwaves yet.
“Stay safe tonight. We’ll see how it goes.” Melissa pulled away, offering enough distance between the twins and Fatu as well. Solo Sikoa most likely prepped elsewhere.
“Yes, Ma’am, bye.” Everyone offered respect, saying goodbye before timing began to shrink even more.
Damn. Cody doesn’t gain another chance to speak before the show finally kicked off.
______
Despite predictable outcomes with Charlotte Flair and Jey Uso qualifying later, “Smackdown” actually fared well this time around. Talent showed out, the crowd raved, and plans moved just like another well-oiled machine.
Not too shabby. Rhodes thought, set to depart the venue as security escorted folks out.
Even Melissa chatted with her friends in that hallway, walking along before ducking one of the trucks. Front headlights almost blinded Cody.
There’s another world after production shut down, one that Rodes may never see.
*****
Roman: Hey, Sweetheart. It's me.
Returning to the hotel room, Melissa checked her cell phone for the first time all evening and smiled. Modern legend Roman Reigns stood as the World Heavyweight Champion on “Monday Night Raw,” but this well-known man scored another title.
“Partner.”
Melissa: Hi. Back in the hotel with my friends. Tonight was good! 🎥
Roman: I’m glad.
Melissa: Is everything okay? You seem quieter than usual. ✉️
Roman: Tired…
Melissa: Don’t worry about texting me, then. Trying going to sleep and you should feel better..💤
Roman: But I can't lay down. Wired or something like that.
Melissa: What’s wrong? 💔
Roman: Don’t know what’s going on yet, but I miss you so much.
Though unable to fix everything overnight, Melissa gently thought of Roman. Between constant obligations and contractual distance from shows at work, quality time almost looked non-existent for their relationship.
Melissa: I miss you too. 🫂
Roman: Distract me. I can’t look at the ceiling.
Melissa: Leaving early in the morning tomorrow. ✈️
Roman: Can we meet somewhere?
Melissa: Not this time. Taking the girls with me and it’s better if we travel in a group.🧳
Roman: Again?
Even while texting Reigns, Melissa recognized the instant frown that would cross Roman’s handsomely chiseled yet annoyed features. No matter how many times Mel explained what’s going on, Reigns wouldn’t accept terms and always told the truth.
Melissa: Ro? Don’t start. We’ve been through this already.🙄
Roman: I don’t care. Come back to me.
Melissa: Soon.🏠
Roman: Soon doesn’t give me an answer, Mel.
Melissa: I’ll be home until Monday. That’s it! 📅
Roman: Then can I visit you this weekend?
Melissa: That’s a good idea, but sorry. Jade’s staying with me.⚡🏀
Out of nowhere, Roman stopped texting and called Melissa for the first time in quite a while. At least her friends wouldn’t interrupt.
“What?” Mel clipped while answering, equally irritated.
“You’re really testin’ my patience right now. “ Pulling his Southern accent forward, Reigns wouldn’t lie.
“Because I won’t show up whenever you want?” Melissa defended herself once more. This debate grew old, yet Roman insisted anyway. “Sorry for having my own life before we started dating.”
“Melissa…” Reigns trailed. “Don’t go there. I’m proud of you.”
“Then support what I’m doing.” Melissa paced with her phone, but Roman caught one irking slip. “You can’t expect me to drop everything just because Sam…
“Sam what?” Roman gritted back without yelling, low.
There it is. Mel realized. The jugular exposed itself.
Two years ago, back when Roman teamed up with Cody Rhodes for “Bad Blood” at the time, ring announcer Samantha Irvin still aided the company,
That same night, after Melissa worked as one of the backstage correspondents, she caught them kissing in the hallway, but Sam resigned to avoid scandal.
To this day, only Roman and Mel knew that secret. Everyone else is better off unaware.
“I’m not following you. Good night.” Fed up, Melissa ended the call, left with her own bitterness.

Roman: I miss you, baby.
Melissa: Miss you too. What’s wrong?💭
Roman: Tired of sleeping alone.
Melissa: Busy later? 📅
Roman: Not really. Why?
Melissa: You’ll see. 🫂
Between pulling himself together and working out today, Roman Reigns still didn’t know what to think after texting earlier. Who knows what else could happen next, especially when Melissa Boyd offered an unexpected puzzle for once?
Though employed with the same wrestling promotion, Roman and Melissa handled “Raw” or “Smackdown” on respective nights, hardly able to visit one another without compromising obligations. In short, quality time had dwindled so much.
“Knock-knock!” Out of nowhere, Reigns glanced over to see her at last.
With beautiful dark skin and deep brown eyes, Mel grinned toward Roman without hesitation. No schedule. No distractions. There’s true consideration upfront.
“Hey,” Turning away from the kitchen, Roman opened both arms and hugged Melissa for the first time in quite a while, grateful.
“Couldn’t meet halfway, so I’m here.” Melissa didn’t even bring excuses or start complaining.
“I’m just glad you showed up at all. Don’t worry.” His Southern accent clipped a little more than usual, gentle.

“What is wrong with you, Roman?” Personal assistant Melissa Boyd helped mogul Roman Reigns for some time now, but what took place today might send this woman directly over the edge.
This morning, Roman's advisor Paul Heyman canceled travel arrangements without notifying Boyd. No explanation. No follow-up. Crickets waited by phone. Reigns wouldn’t answer and only noticed how Mel looked. She's pissed off. Those brown eyes still burned with rage. No smile. No kindness. Absolute fatigue.
But Roman didn’t have enough words to explain himself. Not yet.
“I quit. Rip up our contract too.” Storming out, Melissa couldn’t even glance toward Roman without losing her mind.
Once that office door shut, Roman cringed, shocked but devastated at the same time. She's gone and it's my fault. Reigns can’t deny the truth anymore.
______
Later that night, Reigns can't even sleep in his king-size bed. The teamwork had gone so well until this morning and guilt might tear him apart. Roman canceled that trip for his own sanity. Traveling back and forth pulled strings, but he couldn't risk the burnout this time. There’s too much. Too fast. He would tumble from his own mountain.
And the facade would drift away.
Behind every tailored suit, private jet, or expensive watch, there's an awkward kid from the beach who wanted to play football with his cousins someday. His weight hefted much worse back then. No style. No confidence, either. Barely fitting clothes while Jimmy and Jey looked cool. One barber also clipped Roman’s bowl cut, embarrassing Reigns even more.
Now, Roman Reigns can't stand something else after all this time.
Losing her.
======
TWO MONTHS LATER
“C'mon. Please, girl?” Jade Cargill, Mel’s best friend since college, stood in the doorframe of this bedroom.
“I'm not in the mood to go anywhere right now. What don't you understand?” Melissa defended herself.
No clubs. No music. Nothing. Soon after leaving Roman Reigns behind, Mel started working as a bartender and booked events, always working. Soon enough, Melissa became exhausted and even small talk could drain whatever energy she has left.
“Mel..” Jade tried again. “I'm worried about you this time.”
“I'm sorry.” Melissa couldn't raise her voice. No matter what happened, the ladies don't argue. Not like this. “There's too much going on.”
“You don't need to figure everything out. Come with me.” Jade still offered encouragement.
At last, Melissa pulled herself together and walked out, honestly trying.
*****
When outside, Cargill offered to share dinner with Melissa that evening. It’s simple. Nothing too fancy, but at least the restaurant looked nice in private. Now heading back home with Jade, Mel glanced over when this dark SUV rolled into the parking lot.
Catching bright chrome wheels, she's known that truck like the back of her hand, quietly irritated. And when Roman Reigns stepped out of the backseat, her heart dropped.
Reigns always looked good, but this time around, something felt different. The universe laughed in Mel's face.
Roman bulked another tight shirt over that muscular frame. Hints of tribal ink scaled his dominant arm and slacks covered giant legs with perfect dress shoes. The graying beard curled again and angles teased his jawline. Melissa learned that Roman’s mouth twitched when he's annoyed. And his ponytail swung.
Fuck!
"You wanna leave? Let me know.” Jade whispered to be safe here.
“Not yet. I'll be right back.” Melissa answered Cargill and walked Reigns instead.
_____
Evening streetlights caught their silhouettes moments later.
“What do you want?” Mel avoided so many tears, all cried out.
“I didn't know you'd be here.” Reigns kept pulling out lies. Either someone dropped details or he's an idiot.
“Seriously?” Mel knew better than to believe him. The cozy assistant job. The extravagant salary. Their private arrangement. It was all for naught. “You dropped negotiations without telling me.”
This canceled deal, surely one of Roman's most lucrative endeavors, would still help Melissa from pay alone. If only Reigns cut bullshit and traveled for the meeting.
“I'm tired, all right?” Reigns wouldn’t yell and knew his place outside.
“No excuses. Go ahead and keep this nice life without me, asshole.” Melissa walked away, fed up.
Before Roman could say anything else, Mel vanished from the parking lot with Jade.
======
TWO YEARS LATER
Reigns turned miserable. Absolutely miserable. Even right now, his phone might contact anyone, but he's not interested here.
Roman wants someone else. Roman can't stop thinking about someone else.
Melissa.
Blowing off cobwebs to check social media platforms, Reigns scrolled down with calloused fingers. The phone might as well shrink in his large hand tonight.
Bingo! Roman grinned and almost chuckled in this dark bedroom. The jackpot landed on “Instagram” and new updates revealed another vacation. Reigns would check out the beachfront paradise soon. Bringing other folks along, Mel and Jade beamed with everyone.
Leaving the internet, Roman opened text messages and tried something for the first time in quite a while:
Roman: Hey, it's me.
And once again, Reigns couldn't sleep, quietly waiting for her.
****
Taking one step a time, each day slowly improved. Less frowning. More gratitude. Trying to fix another broken puzzle while navigating life. Melissa knew much better at this point. Pulling down so many others with negative behavior only worsened time. Here, no one else deserved that harsh frustration.
Now shopping with rare time off for once, Mel entered one of the boutiques located downtown and wanted perfume, still coordinating one last “outfit.” Lash returned from her honeymoon after marrying Trick and planned out hang out this evening, obviously making up for the prolonged absence.
Finding cute loungewear, Melissa grinned. She joyfully imagined taking this warm shower upstairs and spending the night after laughing with her girls. No drama whatsoever. Only peace. There’s no better in the world she moved toward the register and nodded by this clerk, ready to pay before she left.
The entrance bell chimed behind her head as Mel gathered this small bag and bid farewell, only pausing when someone hung up their phone call.
Roman.
The world is too small. Melissa thought, gently irritated rather than fuming. She knew better. She had to know better at this point.
Damn. Reigns looked handsome. Again.
Glancing around, this man pocketed both hands in his slack and swung another ponytail, clearly looking for something.
“You lost?” Melissa tried, refusing to let personal tension haunt this store. Both customers and staff deserved a good day.
“Oh, hey. I’m just window shopping.” Though slightly fibbing this time around, Reigns looked across their distance and noticed her.
She’s still beautiful. Even now, Roman couldn’t help lingering. Mel’s brown eyes quietly raved again and he wonders why. What took place without him? Another job? Another house? Perhaps booking more trips? Who knows?
“Have a good one.” Melissa didn’t even bother with small talk. What else could be said without an audience?
“Mel?” Roman stopped everything. No longer biting his tongue, he clipped her nickname in the middle of this store.
Melissa turned around because Ignoring this man would only deepen the problem. She’d already blocked his phone number and walked off, not even checking professional headlines anymore.
“What?” Looking at him, her heart began race. She can’t explain what happened in the short time of working together. Roman had done well before everything shattered. Kind, respectful, stern when need be.
And their private contract. Melissa would always remember when the text messages began. Checking on each other. Calling each other. Visiting one another if possible. On and on.
It was all so good. What the hell just changed?
“I’m sorry.” Reigns moved closer without making a scene, yet Mel’s breath almost hitched. She could drown with his stare, almost pleading. Still gentle.
“You left me out. I can’t do this anymore.” Melissa couldn’t take another lie. If Reigns actually cared, this conversation wouldn’t happen at all.
And she walked out of the store, leaving him all over again.

2024
1, 2, 3! After all these years, hard work finally paid off. Cody Rhodes defeated modern legend Roman Reigns for the Undisputed Championship. Countless voices almost shook the venue far and wide while thousands of fans celebrated, overjoyed.
Vibrant fireworks and confetti dropped in all directions as excitement washed over, grounding this unbelievable milestone. No more waiting. No more games. No more obstacles. His trail stopped right here at the finish line with so much joy tonight.
Even as Cody sniffled in the raving aftermath, folks offered genuine respect behind the scenes.
Out of nowhere, his phone buzzed:
Melissa: Congratulations, Champ!🏆
Cody: Thank you so much, but where are you? It's almost time for the press conference. Is everything okay? 😞
Melissa: It’s a long story, but I have something for you. Please don’t leave the building yet. 🎁
Cody: Sure, I'll be here. 🎥
What’s going on? Cody waited regardless.
_____________
“Hi.” Now smiling backstage, Melissa won’t hug Cody, but kindness remained, gentle compared to this morning.
“Where did you go?” Cody’s voice nearly trembled, still raw with personal emotions here.
Soon, Melissa turned between flashing monitor lights and handed over this exclusive box.
“I have something. Just know that he’s proud of you.” Mel told the truth.
“Dad’s Rolex…” Cody whispers toward his father’s watch, somewhere between amazement and disbelief. “He pawned it years ago…”
“I know.” Melissa blinked through her own tears as Cody set the beloved timepiece on his wrist.
“Thank you.” Turning away, Cody refused to break down, yet no amount of gratitude would be good enough.
Even after graduating college, Melissa probably followed his journey all along.
Straightening up, Melissa and Cody walked away from each other to depart such an incredible night.
It’s time for something new.
*****
With his first episode of “Monday Night Raw” as champion, Cody’s smile became so much brighter even after production shut down. Now wearing Dad's gold Rolex in this tailored suit with polished shoes, Cody doesn't tear up as blue eyes looked around.
But Melissa isn't here.
Cody: Hey. I'm just checking in. Haven't seen you at all. 🥺
Melissa: Finished working and wanted to beat traffic. Enjoy yourself. You deserve it. 🌙
Cody: Thanks, but I'm worried. We can talk about anything. Always. 🫂
Melissa: Thank you. Get some rest. 💤 💜
Cody: You too. 😴
_____
“Did you sleep better last night?” Cody won't flirt the next day, but smiled at Melissa in that hall.
“Yeah, thank you. Safe travels.” Melissa clipped, planning to leave as usual.
Just when Cody and Melissa would exit like clockwork, their phones buzzed at the same time out of nowhere:
“Wait…” Trailing, Cody glanced over, puzzled.
Bringing his screen closer to Melissa, Cody didn't know what to think until social media platforms chimed out loud:
‘Yesterday, we mourned. Today is Day 1’ - Roman Reigns, 2024
In this brand-new video circulating online, former champion Roman Reigns marched shirtless on the treadmill, silent and determined, curling his lip just to show off until footage ended.
Melissa still didn’t know what to think here. For some odd reason, Cody straightened up. This time around, who knows what else could happen next?
“Hey, what’s wrong?” Mel offered the question gently and tried to figure out why Cody looked stiff.
Despite Cody working so hard, watching his opponent brush off defeat like nothing actually happened looked surreal. There’s a huge difference between perseverance and this arrogant bastard showboating for millions of fans.
“Sorry. I gotta go.” Cody walked away and left with security guards before Melissa could notice the real pain in his eyes.
Damn. Melissa thought, heading out as well.
*****
Something changed. It’s embarrassing how often Rhodes began to nitpick so many details right now. Every city. Every venue. Every broadcast. On and on. Regardless of new circumstances, time would count more and more with this title on his shoulder.
As Cody and Melissa noticed each other on the road one night, tension would linger here. No chaos or drama, but feelings may drift.
“Ready to talk?” Mel asked, trying.
“No.” Cody said. “I don’t even want to think about Roman anymore.”
“Okay. What do you suggest?” Melissa then tilted her head, not flirting, but still curious at this point.
“Have dinner with me.” His statement isn't vain like Roman, but Cody waited, patient enough.
“Sure, see you then.” Melissa agreed, turning elsewhere.
******
With the restaurant closed for obvious reasons, Melissa and Cody shared dinner in private testing gentle waters Sitting across the table without interruptions, it’s good to smile once more. Maybe this new chapter could help their own dynamics even more.
“Remember when Dad crashed your interview with the football team?” Not drinking tonight, Cody finished dessert after paying the bill.
“That was nice.” Mel jokingly rolled both eyes, now wearing Cody jacket as security guided helped out. Long before wrestling changed everything, “Dream” Rhodes played football noted other sports when his son attended college.
At the time, the team fared well enough, but his father didn’t care and platformed Melissa as the next big star herself, optimistic:
“Get out of the way.” Always hobbling, Dream veiled sharp blues underneath his favorite cap on the gridiron and raved toward the sideline camera. “Run the field all day long, but you need folks like Mel to write everything down. Keep going.”
“Thank you for spending time with me.” Cody remained honest.
“Of course, Champ.” Mel safely returned to the hotel.

2026
“Don’t touch me! Where's my phone?” Nearly marching away from the professional training hall, Roman nearly vented after cameras stopped rolling. His enemy Seth Rollins almost destroyed him to end their contract signing for Summerslam.
Both longtime medics and designated officials tried to calm him down, but nothing eased tension as Roman slammed one private door. Even General Manager Adam Pearce yelled from outside. All the while, Reigns won’t let up, frustrated beyond words:
Roman: Hey. It's me. I don’t want to talk about the show, but hearing from you would be good. Take care.
Melissa didn't respond as quickly, hopefully resting or asleep somewhere during that late-night hour. And this time around, especially considering wonderful friends, who knows what she planned before “Smackdown” even hit airwaves over the weekend?
Still brushing off emotions, Roman pulled himself together by an absolute miracle and walked out, hoping that no one else would disturb his quietly frazzled mind. With “Summerslam” looming in the distance, his own reality might drop before long.
Back at the hotel, Roman tossed and turned again, still blinking while moonlight and cityscape crossed another bedroom window. It’s quietly embarrassing how his mind began to wander. Though not even bored, he’s lonely and exhausted all at once.
Somewhat composed later, Roman knew his plan: ‘wake up, leave this place, and fly home.’ Reigns didn’t even call Pearce before leaving, back in this mansion and taking his much-needed shower after working out. Maybe his solitude could be peaceful.
But soon, it’s nearly worse around the house. There’s a huge difference between recovering in private as usual and emotions nagging with shadows. Every haunted whisper kept this man awake, almost forcing him to watch the mirror one night.
Unlike Jimmy sporting laugh lines with bright expressions, Roman’s face hallowed even more. Though safe and blessed for many reasons, Reigns can’t even perk up toward his reflection, counting each wrinkle or still finding grey that curled his beard.
Just when Roman turned off lights and tried to sleep again, his phone buzzed on the nightstand:
Melissa: Hi! Sorry for not answering, but I just got back home from vacation with Jade. How are you feeling? 🏡
Roman: Hey, I feel better. Did ya’ll have fun?
Melissa: We had a good time! I’ll post pictures at some point. It was her birthday! 🎉📸
Roman: That’s nice…
Of course it’s late again, but Roman doesn’t care. Even texting Melissa back and forth is still better than trying to figure out the mysteries in his head. And right now, he doesn’t think about the future. No Rollins. No mayhem in the ring at all.
Roman: …Melissa, what time is it?
Melissa: Morning. Did you fall asleep? ☀️
Roman: Fuck! Sorry. Am I interrupting you?
Melissa: No, but I finished breakfast. Have a good one. 🥐
Roman: Wait…
Melissa: Yes? 💭
Roman: I have an idea…
Melissa: All right. Let’s see what’s going on. 👀
________
With assistance from security again, Reigns cleared this bookstore and invited Melissa, sharing more coffee after lunch in private. Vast windows overlooked cobblestone streets outside as the day progressed and time isn’t uncomfortable.
“How’d you get here, fan of the business?” Roman thought of careers as small talk picked back up. Across their table, Mel put down her beverage.
“Jade played basketball first and eventually started wrestling, but I wasn’t really looking for this job.” Melissa offered truth right back.
“What was the real plan?” Finishing water, he’s not one for coffee, but ordered something anyway.
“There was an opening for one of the backstage correspondents.” Mel nearly shrugged. “Interviewing talent would’ve been nice, but Aldis needed someone for the marketing team on Smackdown. I raised my hand, so here we are.”
“Wait, you just wanted to interview people?” Scrunching up his chiseled face, Roman nearly twitches over his mouth again, confused and slightly irritated.
“Yeah. what’s the problem?” Melissa didn’t know what to think, especially when Reigns looked annoyed.
“Why volunteer for something that you don’t even like?” Though never raising his voice again, he’s miffed.
“Aldis looked for well-rounded people, so I have other work to do.” Mel defended herself. No one really questioned her obligations until now.
“That’s not what you wanted.” Reigns clipped. He doesn’t want to argue for obvious reasons, but Mel’s arrangement isn’t fair. At all. Someone else wasted her dream just to find extra help backstage.
“This career pays the bills and I’ll see my friends anyway. Plans don’t always work out, but life sounds pretty good to me.” Shrugging, Melissa excused herself from the table and walked off, heading toward bookshelves instead.
And like some lost puppy, Roman followed.
Damn.
_______
“Buy anything. I don’t care.” Insistent, Reigns trailed up and down the aisles without stalking Melissa, though highly aware despite this empty bookstore. Only the cashiers and baristas waited upfront.
“How many books?” Mel asked.
“Hold on. Do you think twice with Jade?” Roman squinted, curious for a moment here.
“Nope.” Melissa glanced over.
“Then don’t ask questions around me.” Crossing both arms, Reigns nearly jutted out his lip. “I’ve kept the lights at work, remember?”
“Actually, Rhea has you in the second place.” Melissa laughs and it’s the most beautiful sound.
“Good point.” Nodding, Roman knew. There’s no debate. Ripley could go anywhere and still work as the most popular wrestler. “What’s that?”
Somewhere between banter and sales, Melissa found the classic section. She paused for a moment, but nearly gasps further down this line.
“Charlotte’s Web.” Mel almost whispers after finding this brand-new edition in the children’s aisle. “I was in third grade or something. One of the kids ran over my copy with their bike and I never got it back. Wow.”
Roman doesn’t ask questions, just watching Melissa opened pages and grinned, silently grateful.
When Mel finally reached the counter, Roman is already smiling.
That day, Melissa Boyd and Roman Reigns walked out free of charge as sunset painted the skyline once more.

2026
Shit! Despite booking the first show during “Summerslam” weekend, Jimmy Uso froze beside Jacob Fatu after seeing Melissa Boyd. Mel joined Cathy Kelley and Jackie Redmond. All three women looked determined.
Bloodline members lost their Tag Team match, unheard of. Not to mention how Solo Sikoa, their own relative, huddled Royce Keys and LA Knight for the win. With everyone around that ring, an incredible battle landed this devastating outcome.
“What should we do?” Nervous without playing his character, Jacob began to hesitate.
“Stay calm. We’re okay.” Jimmy tried to offer advice here because there’s no other choice. Sweating in front of Mel is out of the question.
As LA Knight showed up with his team, Jimmy realized that Solo laughed over flashing cameras. Royce perked up, no longer striding like a badass in the ring. Melissa said goodbye before all three men joined the post-show.
“Hey, Mel.” Jimmy attempted right back. Jacob wouldn’t smile for obvious reasons here.
“Couldn’t get the job done.” Melissa shook her head and turned elsewhere, completely ignoring her pals to work.
Another plan should help their failure. Maybe. Hopefully.
******
Melissa: Good morning! Not sure if you’ve seen anything online, but last night was hectic. How are you? ☀️
Roman: Hey. I’m all right, but I missed you.
Melissa: Missed you too. Ready for the match? 🎟️
Roman: No.
Melissa: Everything will be fine, but promise me that you’ll get Seth’s ass! It’s no different than fighting Punk at Mania! 🤣
Roman: No. This may be our last opportunity against each other.
Melissa: Show your brother who the real champion is! 🏆
Roman: Thank you, but Don’t encourage me like that.
Melissa: Why not? 👀
Roman: Because now I want to see you. I’ll never belong to Seth.
Melissa: You shouldn’t act up.😂
Roman: Not if I shut him down.
Melissa: I'll block you! 📵
Roman: Who’s better than me?
Melissa: Stop changing the subject, Roman.🙄
Roman: I’m asking good questions before work takes you away from me.
Melissa: You’re being dramatic! 😒
Roman: Can you blame me at all? You’re so pretty.
Melissa: OMG! Whatever. I’ll see you later…💥
__________
“Congratulations, Chelsea.” Though unable to watch the show among folks right away this year, Melissa will never forget seeing an incredible ladder match from the women’s division.
“Thank you so much, Melissa.” Chelsea Green hurried, set to have brand-new nameplates for the WWE Championship.
Talking to wrestlers one by one now, Melissa noted each participant afterwards and smiled.
Before long, Mel quietly blinked through tears while speaking with her best friend, Jade Cargill.
Though wearing some amazing purple gear to honor late icon Prince, Jade can't smile, emotional as she failed to win again.
“I'm so proud of you.” There aren't enough words to describe her feelings, but Mel tried.
“Thank you.” Jade hugged Melissa tighter.
“Feel better. If you need anything, reach out. Okay?” Pulling away, Mel offered so much kindness.
“Kay..” Jade won't sniffle, but losing all over again hurts. “Love you.”
“Love you too.” Now pulling herself together as Cargill left, Melissa dusted feelings away and continued working.
_______
Though Danhaussen won money back from Dominik Mysterio, Melissa stopped laughing shortly after. Not only has Trick Williams lost the US Title to Baron Corbin, but Chad Gable scored the Intercontinental belt from Penta.
Genius Kevin Owens also returned as the number one contender against CM Punk to open this show, but could booking look any worse afterwards?
As the main event loomed closer and closer, Mel thought of one person:
Melissa: It's time! ⏰️
Roman: I know. We parked the bus. On my way.
Melissa: See you there. 🚎
******
There she is.
Having to prep before the match, Roman Reigns can't help smiling at Melissa Boyd, bashful to an extent. After silently praying together in the middle of this hallway, Roman embraces her, grateful until the bell rings.
“I'm proud of you.” Melissa offered encouragement.
Though not responding himself, Reigns knew.
They'll always have each other.
But in the distance while Melissa and Roman held hands to leave, Seth Rollins observed everything.
*****
“Sierra, Hotel, India, Echo, Lima, Delta, - Shield…”
As one legendary emblem crossed each vast jumbotron here, radio static might stop Melissa’s heart. All around, spectators held their breath far and wide. Jade clutched Mel’s hand while seated ringside with B-Fab and Michin. Regardless of personal experiences, everyone has heard of The Shield.
Nostalgia faded just as quickly, replaced by upcoming flames that cradled by the entrance ramp. Time anticipated three lyrics:
“Burn it down!” Menacing and somewhat obnoxious Rock began to shake as fans chanted together.
Feigning annoyance, Mel knew so much better and turned up her nose with friends. Jade pouted over fresh makeup while Rollins sauntered over, cackling worse than the Joker himself and hogging so much ovation.
“Oh, c’mon. Stop looking mad over there. I’ll have fun.” Noting Melissa’s group, Seth baited more and more, sporting vibrance with his gear for the first time in quite a while.
“Hold on, Seth.” Melissa thought, smirking toward her best friend as the crowd began to settle
Seconds later, arrogant melodies thundered from all directions and victory spelled back out. As blue spotlights flickered, Melissa looks on. There’s only a matter of time before reality will slap Rollins down.
Continuing his march down this well-known ramp, Roman caught so many details. The packed stadium. Every light. Every flash. Countless people reacting. Now glancing ringside, Reigns spotted familiar faces by the distant barricade.
Jade, B-Fab, Michin and Melissa.
Now pointing, Reigns grinned toward this group without ever breaking character. Bringing ones to the sky, there's nothing better.
And when Mel nodded throughout blinding lights, Roman would march in the zone unlike any other time in his successful career. I’ll make you proud, baby.
Once the bell rang, all bets were off. Cheering may begin, but no applause won’t quell years of mayhem, grief, and anger.
“Don’t embarrass yourself. Got a big crowd tonight.” Laughing over more trash talk, Seth won’t stop play mind games. “Make it count.”
“I will.” Roman pledged, gritting at the last second.
It’s now or never!
_______
Back and forth. Play by play. Moving over and over. Each sequence that ran with two modern legends dazzled the audience with longtime precision and hatred. It’s nailbiting. Too close. Too fast. So much could change the title right here.
No referee. No limits. Two stubborn veterans might go for anything. The crowd watched it all.
One Spear. Two. Three.
Roman “battled” to symbolize all three members of “The Shield.”
“1, 2, 3!” Three fated numbers counted off when Roman Reigns pinned Seth Rollins for good. No drama. Their last real fight.
“Here is your winner and still - The World Heavyweight Champion: The OTC - Roman Reigns!” One blaring announcement shook the world as Reigns defeated his biggest enemy.
With both men slumped in corners, silence met this ring. Nearly fifteen years worth. Sluggish, time lingered, as if each person waited for someone else to get up. But who will move first after so much pain?
Taking that tribute mask of the night, Seth rose to his feet and hobbled toward the middle as Roman followed suit. Bracing his knuckle for the first time in years, Reigns waited as one last milestone finished their chapter.
Setting down the tactical mask of former member Dean Ambrose, Seth also braced his knuckle toward Roman and ended one of the greatest rivalries in wrestling history.
“Thnak you for everything, brother.” Tapping Roman’s shoulder, Seth welcomed the applause, but knew that Reigns came out on top once.
“Thank you.” Reigns took Seth at his word. After all this time, there’s something much more vital than fury and power.
Growth.
It’s time to celebrate with Seth gone among the noise. Truth be told, Roman feels much better after taking care of business.
“What, mad at me?” Showing another wicked smile, Roman glanced toward Mel's friends. Jade, B-Fab and Michin only smirked between tempos.
“Good job..” All three women offered kindness and knew who Reigns had truly looked for.
“Thanks.” Roman clipped expressions and walked along the barricade until he saw her.
Heading close to Melissa, those dark tresses fall around his chiseled face. As Roman looked to revealed that muscular frame again, tribal ink looped over his skin.
“Congratulations.” Mel whispered against his lips, although sweat and heat from the match burned.
And right here, taking this moment, Melissa Boyd would kiss Roman Reigns in public for the first time, however fleeting as the OTC left.
*****
“Wait a minute, oh!” Huddled with Jacob, Jimmy can’t believe what’s going on. Roman defeated Seth Rollins and he kissed Melissa Boyd, subconsciously confirming their relationship.
Not too much, but staying real. Jimmy understood that Mel would never risk her career. Everyone knew.
On the monitor, Roman handled interviews and joined correspondent Jackie Redmond:
Jackie laid groundwork. “Congratuations on retaining the World Heavyweight Chmapionship. How do you feel after ending this monumental feud against Seth Rollins?”
“We stayed with this company when other people walked away. I’m proud of Seth and always will be. One of the best and a future hall of famer. We’ve grown and matured. Not holding grudges anymore. That being said, I’ll never forget who I am. I’m the greatest of all time and whether ya’ll like it or not, I’ll run this business until my last breath.”
Motioning toward the camera on his last words, Reigns vanished, letting voices rattle credits.
*******
“Don’t eat my fries.” Joining that tour bus for once, Melissa and Roman would return to the hotel after handling this weekend.
“You got more than I did.” Clearing their trash en route, Roman almost earned fast food.
“C’mon. Don’t do that, Sweetheart.” With Roman almost scoffing, it’s tempting. Maybe the hotel could work magic from room service later.
“Do what?” Mel played.
“Wait, is your phone off?” Slowly finding another direction, Roman would turn the tables instead.
“Why?” Melissa looked over.
“Because if you keep messing with me like that, I’ll have something else in mind.” He’s confident and moved toward her. Despite the common area found on this private bus, one partition kept their driver out of sight.
“Nothing crazy, we’re not at home.”Mel tried to warn him and knew that decorum would make a difference.
“You think I care?” Reigns flirted and kissed her with more devotion than what happened earlier. Whispering over the barricade is nothing compared to this.
Reigns leaned closer and granted room to let everything stop if Melissa wanted. Safety and consent were non-negotiable, no matter who the couple is.
“Too much?” Roman asked questions, waiting despite his shadow looming directly over her face. She’s so perfect.
“No.” Melissa grinned and welcomed the intimacy.
“Good.” Reigns promised.
But they paused, having reached their destination.
Damn.
__________
Back at their hotel, it’s quiet. Gentle between the sheets. Fresh out of the shower tonight, Roman stopped moving adrenaline, exhausted. No more charm. Not boasting like TV. Those loose curls might as well cover his face again. After working so hard, Reigns dreamed and almost nestled by Melissa’s chest.
There’s peace.
Waking back up, Roman can’t tell what time it is, but this nightstand lamp almost brightened this the rear window. Another city blinked and towered more skyscrapers as Reigns sat up against pillows.
From this king-size bed, nothing else would make a difference. Reigns watched Melissa, the most beautiful woman on earth, primp here for some reason. At Roman’s angle, Mel stepped back, looking between herself and this full-length mirror.
Roman didn’t know where Melissa got her outfit this time. It’s not one of her presents from him, either. Nothing too risque, but enough to garner attention.
And when Mel turned around here, Roman became speechless. It’s rare to see her dress up beyond work, let alone look so good right now.
“Where you goin’?” His powerful and often dangerous voice, somehow darker from sleeping, almost struggled to ask questions.
“Jade texted me while you were knocked out.” Mel laughed and zipped one purse that Roman doesn’t remember seeing before, either. “I gotta go.”
“Wait, what’s the plan?” Almost coy, Roman wants to know.
“Dinner. Nothing special.” Mel shrugged. “Don’t wait up for me.”
“I..” Reigns trailed off. No more kisses. No other affection. Mel would paint thee town with her friends
Fuck!
*****
The next day, almost reeling from last weekend like a hangover, Roman can’t work out after waking up and eating breakfast alone. Pulling himself together from habit, he checked out the hotel, prepared to work all over again.
When Roman finally entered that venue backstage, production hustled before “Monday Night Raw” hit airwaves. As if nothing changed, talent mingled, staff members connected, and others arrived, hardworking too.
But Roman doesn’t care about anyone else. Not even Jimmy and Jacob can distract him from looking around tonight. Melissa did not text Reigns this morning and probably started her day earlier than most before work kicked off.
But soon enough, Mel turned the corner and she’s already reviewing notes with General Manager Adam Pearce.
“Good work. We’ll start rollin’ on time, okay?” Saying goodbye to Melissa, Pearce drawled his hometown accent, stronger than Roman’s tone. “Thank you.”
As Roman twitched again, irritation lined up. Something about the farewell annoyed him. Don’t get too close.
Given no other choice but to move forward, Roman buried his emotions and prepared for another broadcast.
The show must go on.
******
“We found peace last night and I’m putting this chapter behind me, but he’s still one of the best people I’ve fought…” Letting this crowd sing, Roman almost turned the microphone side to side. Thousands would honor Seth Rollins.
Out of nowhere, buzzing music dropped over crimson and yellow, but Roman scrunched up his face. Fans just raved over LA Knight.
Is this a joke? Reigns thought.
Creative writers lost their minds again. Not only has Knight already crossed Roman before, but he’s fumbled on numerous occasions. Amazing talent, but horrible chances with the roster. It’s laughable to fight again.
And yet, Reigns knew.
This shit will be too easy.
“Are you serious? We’ve done this dance before.” Playing up the bullshit in character, Reigns would much rather sleep again. Anything looked better than this garbage. “Can’t just walk up to me lookin’ for another title shot.”
“Fraud. It’s good that you handled Rollins on your own last night, but you never showed up when I looked around the locker room…” Knight spurred, rallying the crowd with each passing second.
“I don’t need to. Why should we fight again after two years? You still buy watches from Walmart.” Not even laughing, Roman gestured between Knight’s random timepiece and showed off real treasure, another high-end knockout.
“Stop yapping about your swanky lifestyle, Reigns. Name the time and place whenever you want. Just say the word and we’ll go one on one for the World Heavyweight Championship. Yeah!” Knight’s obnoxiously blue stare nearly irritated Reigns.
On cue, the loud theme blasted again and sounds left Roman with a headache between commercials.
What the hell?
____________
“Let’s get rid of these fools. Ya’ll can’t even win tag team matches anymore? I thought we had plans.” Reigns chided Jimmy and jacob during another segment for television.
“Uce, we’ll get LA, Jimmy tried.
“No, Jim. You’ve ruined the chance, so don’t touch him. I’ll fight that idiot myself.” Reigns promised. “Jacob? Find Royce as soon as you can. Got it?”
“It’s a deal.” Jacob clipped right back, ready to throw down one of his best friends anyway.
No one is more important than family.
_________
Numb to the chaos later, Roman only stepped back out to raise one finger as credits rolled onscreen again. Jacob Fatu destroyed Royce Keys over this brutal street fight as the main event and trailed mayhem in his wake on television.
Come hell or high water, The Bloodline stood tall once more.
____________
In the hallway, Roman noticed Melissa hugging fan favorite Stephanie Vaquer with the biggest smile on her face. It’s wonderful to see Mel interact with people so easily. How in the world can she do it?
“Good to see you again, take care.” Melissa watched Vaquer leave, yet almost jumped after noticing Roman.
“What?” Reigns shrugged over another merch shirt and still bulked the fabric with tribal ink scaling over his arm.
“You can’t just stand there. Text me or something.” A little spooked, Melissa glanced around.
“That’s not fun.” Roman said, bringing Mel close with just enough decency here.
“I’m sorry about this morning. I’d usually text you after breakfast, but Jade lost her charger, I dropped some coffee while checking out, and….” Melissa paused and gently realized that Roman set his finger near her lips.
“Hey.” He’s closer, whispering by the shell of her ear. “Don’t worry, we’ll talk about everything when we get home…”
