“Not there.” Papillon doesn’t care about people. He was raised not to care about them, living in a world where survival of the fittest was as true as the sun and the only way to do it is by caring only about yourself. He doesn’t care about them. And yet when he sees a face he recognises, walking down a street he also recognises, he somehow can’t help but jog up to her and grab her arm. Somehow knowing someone suddenly makes it easier to feel guilt. “You shouldn’t go there. I know this city, and I know this street, and it’s better if you avoid walking in front of any of these buildings late at night.”
