This is a fun question and one I could take forever to answer, but let me just pick ONE of my favorites today. 🥰 Here's a scene from draft 1 of Invisible Girl, one I had a lot of fun writing...
“He can see me,” Velia whispered, voicing it for the first time; acknowledging that it was real. “I don’t know how—I’ve never seen him before in my life, but he can see me. Somehow.” Paris’ hand found her ankle and gripped it. She could feel the warmth of him through the leather of her boot. “Well, the way I see it, is either there’s a variable we don’t know about, or he knows you.” “But he doesn’t,” Velia persisted. There was no way the man cared for her. Could you care for someone you’d never met? Paris was quiet, clearly asking himself the same question. “I think you can,” he answered, like she’d spoken it out loud. “My father. I don’t remember him, he left when I was a few months old. And yet…I miss him.” “You care for him?” He grunted. “I wish I didn’t. He wasn’t a good man, from what my mother says.” “Is it easy to care for someone who’s bad?” Paris looked up, and it was almost like he was seeing her for real. “Whether or not you care, and whether or not they are good are two entirely different problems, Ms. Greene.”
