The police in Chiang Rai have arrested a man in connection with the armed robbery at the Bangkok Bank in Chiang Saen on Monday. His arrest comes after police managed to track down the gun that was used in the crime.
The suspect left the gun with a friend after committing the robbery, who allegedly contacted Chiang Rai police.

3 Million Meth Pills, 40 Kilograms of crystal Meth Seized in Chiang Rai
Rangers and soldiers seized 3 million methamphetamine pills and 40 kilograms of crystal meth, or ice, in Chiang Saen district. A car packed with drugs which ran a checkpoint at approximately 4am Sunday.
Rangers and soldiers manning the checkpoint gave chase and found the car further up the road. The driver abandoned the car and fled into the dark.
Maj Gen Thanadpol Kosaisevi, commander of the Pha Muang Force said eleven bags containing 3,036,000 meth pills and 40kg of ice were recovered from the vehicle.
The initials 999 and Y1 were imprinted on the meth pill packages. Indicating that they were produced by Muser and Wa tribesmen in Myanmar. The 40 kilograms of crystal meth was stuffed in tea bags.
Rescue Workers Busted Smuggling Meth Pills in Ambulance
Last week two rescue workers from Chiang Rai were arrested with 592,000 meth pills and 101 grams of ketamine. They had hidden the drugs believing police wouldn’t stop of question a rescue van.
Four people were arrested for using a rescue ambulance to transport meth pills and ketamine. They were transporting the drugs from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai province.
More than 500,000 meth pills and 101 grams of ketamine were found in the rescue van. They had hidden the drugs believing police wouldn’t stop or question a rescue van.
Police also reported they also arrested two other associates that were driving ahead in a lead vehicle.

Driver Runs Chiang Sean District Checkpoint, 200,000 Meth Pills Seized
CHIANG SAEN – Police have seized 200,000 meth pills “yaba” from a drug suspect who tried to run a checkpoint with his pickup in Chiang Saen district of Chiang Rai.
The drug suspect ran the checkpoint with his pickup which was later found to contain 200,000 meth pills after the driver abandoned the vehicle in a wooded area following a chase.
He escaped into the forest in Chiang Rai’s Chiang Saen district.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, with officers from the Pha Muang Task Force saying the pills were found in the vehicle’s speaker compartments.
According to the Nation, the soldiers, working with police, had acted on a tip-off in the morning that an Isuzu D-Max pickup truck would transport narcotics from Mae Fah Luang district.
Officials set up the checkpoint in Ban San That in Tambon Yonok, Chiang Saen district.
When they spotted the target vehicle at 1.30pm, they signaled for the driver to pull over.
But the vehicle sped away.
The officers gave chase until they caught up with the truck, abandoned at a rubber plantation.
While one team searched the plantation for the elusive suspect, another team searched the vehicle and found the drugs hidden in the speaker compartments.
The evidence, truck and drugs were sent to Chiang Saen police station for the investigation to proceed.
