Good question!

I have not, mostly because my hair is neither as long nor as thick as hers is meant to be. BtS shots reveal that the "down" wig for Lucille was literally floor-length, and even braided it reaches to her knees. It's also very thick. My hair is about upper thigh-length when wet, and rather fine. So I don't think I could do it without augmentation (and my hair is also very hard to color-match for a fairly ordinary medium brown; go figure).

Also, I'm not sure how easy her hairstyles would be to do even if we had identical hair. Her main or "blue dress" look, if you examine it carefully, is a crown braid around a bun that has tiny braids criss-crossing it like a net. Easy enough to accomplish with a wig, but how you manage that with real hair so none of the pins show is beyond me.

(Many fans headcanon that her hair was forcibly cut off in the asylum and she now refuses to even trim it out both of trauma and defiance. Certainly very long hair was prized for women in the late 1860s-early 1880s when she was growing up, though by 1901 many were wearing it closer to waist-length to better achieve the fashionable pompadour styles. However, many women did trim their hair in some capacity even back when Lucille was a child/teen, because at some point either the weight is just too much or you can't figure out how to get it all up tidily. It seems like around hip-length was more common in the late 19th century, which is also many AFAB people's natural "terminal length," or the point at which your hair just won't grow any more)

(that being said, you can find curiosity photos- or early boudoir shots -of women with floor-length hair from the late 19th century. so she certainly wouldn't be the only one)

17. What’s the most important aspect of a doll, in your opinion?

Face. If I fall in love with the face, I can put up with quite a lot from the rest of the doll.

Now, Italy is well known for having different dialects and cultural practices from essentially city to city, so takes this with a grain of salt, but my mom (from the late 60s) never got her ears pierced because she finds them vulgar, in a 'country farmer' way apparently.

Ironically i believe she's the only one in her family to think so: my aunt wears earrings, and my grandmother can only wear clip ons because she has metal allergies (figuring it out was literally painful).

It might be a 'city kid' thing: she lived in Rome for most of her childhood before moving up north in Friuli (top area of the Veneto region) for her father's job, which is a rural area.

I guess they remind her too much of the local farmers? It might be equally likely that she's paranoid of potential infections though.

Vulgar/"not elegant" is a complaint I've heard about pierced ears in the American sources I've mainly looked at, but in more of a "sexual judgment" way than a rural vs. urban way. And usually earlier than the late 1960s.

I wonder if that attitude had migrated to cities in Italy by your mother's day, but never made it to rural areas? Italians are one of the European ethnic groups I've heard about continuing to pierce their ears- and getting looked down on for it -here in the States, it's true.
