Remembering "Creepy Watson", the meme spawned from the (arguably lazy) game mechanics of the Frogwares Sherlock Holmes games of the early 2000s.
You play first-person as Sherlock and Watson is meant to be at your side as your companion throughout the game, but the programmers lacked the time, energy or most likely budget to animate Watsons walk, so he just kind of teleported near you when you were not looking, in a sometimes unexpected and unsettling way.
The strange game mechanic went viral on YouTube and the Creepy Watson meme was born. Respect though to Frogwares for later not just quietly fixing Watson but giving a nod to the meme by including a short called "The Return of Creepy Watson" in a later release of their new game engine.
