It’s been a hot minute since I posted on here, howdy, I’m here with a hot take.
I don’t want a Netflix adaptation of Check Please.
As an Oldie in the fandom, I feel like I should want one but I don’t trust it to live up to expectations. The fandom has been headcanoning and theorizing about a Netflix show for Check Please for years now, and I don’t think the producers would do the source material justice. Beyond the producers though, I think I share the opinion of a lot of other Oldies in the fandom that Ngozi has burned us enough times I don’t know if her influence on the show would be a benefit or a hindrance. There are so many examples of source material being cut or edited in Netflix shows, and N has a history of modifying the storyline to please fans.
That said, there are certain scenes that if they were done well, I would watch on repeat. The Hockey Prince story, framed as a fairytale, maybe done with animation instead of film? You bet that I would be tearing up in a heartbeat. The up-beat energy of Epikegster blurring into the background as the camera focuses on Parse? Lovely. Bitty, focusing in on his playlist and pre-game stretches, transitioning into actually getting on ice? Amazing.
tldr; there could be potential, but I just don’t think an adaptation of Check Please into a TV show would do the source material justice, and it would probably just anger fans
