October 28, 2016 Home of the Unshackled Those words were written in quotes under the building's name. I was on my way to the airport but I wanted to bid another city farewell. I wanted to stop by the Pacific Garden Mission because of its two huge neon signs. "Christ died for our sins," and "Jesus Saves." Now I am not one to criticize the written "word" in either the Bible or the Koran, however, I do like to poke at the Creflo Dollars and TD Jakes of our society, especially after seeing some of the things I have seen. Where is the Church? "Why are they more concerned with the church's coffers and jets instead of their communities? Founded in 1877, part of its mission has been to operate a mission like their bible and drug programs that allow some of the less fortunate in our society to find jobs and homes if they graduate from the programs. "I love being here because I am able to help the people that I find here. I have been here for almost a year but I recently got kicked out because of a fighting misunderstanding. I still come here because I have some people trying to help me to get back in," Trevor Lockfair told me. When I was out there photographing it was the 6.45 curfew and the residents were hurrying to get inside. "If they don't get in they will be locked out all night," he continued. So where do you stay now? I asked "On the streets," he answerd. #chicagoportrait #streetportrait #streetphotography #makeportrait #makeportraits #leicaq (at Pacific Garden Mission)
