CHANCE DISHES OUT CHANCES AS RAPPER DONATES $1 MILLION TO CHICAGO SCHOOLS!!
Chancelor Bennett, Chance The Rapper to you and I, stunned the world as he announced in a news conference last night that he would be donating $1 million to the Chicago Public school system. In fact, he went further than that, adding that SocialWorks, a non-profit organization which the rapper co-founded, would donate an added $10,000 for every $100,000 raised, as he encourages companies in and around Chicago to contribute and help with funding for local schools.
The Chicago born and bred rapper went on to state, “Today, I am proud to announce that I am donating $1 million to support arts and enrichment programmes.”
The repeat Grammy-award-winning rapper decided to take matters into his own hands and address the issues of local school funding cuts.
His announcement came as a result of the $215 million funding bill, which Chicago schools had been relying on was, vetoed last month by Illinois Republican governor, Bruce Rauner.
Rauners decision has caused a ruckus to say the least, with a lawsuit being brought against the state of Illinois stemming from the backlash of his decision. Five families from Chicago and the Chicago Board of Education are claiming that state funding for schools outside of Chicago are based on race alone, and thus the courts shall battle.
On a side note, maybe we shall be calling the rapper Chancellor Chancelor The Rapper as he tackles official state matters in Chicago.
