“NINOS DEL MUNDO”
by Charles W. Felix and Norma Montoya
In the early 70s Los Angeles muralists Charles W. Felix, aka Cat, and Norma Montoya shared a common struggle with San Diego artists Victor Ochoa and Mario Torero. Both pairs striving to “embolden their communities through public art,” organized a mural exchange program between Boyle Heights and Logan Heights, and in 1975 Felix and Montoya painted “Children of the World” as a gift to Barrio Logan. With bold colors and playful shapes the artists set out to paint a vision of optimism and childlike wonder in the face of life’s obstacles—a message that the power of creativity can achieve a life of beauty and wisdom. The pillar under the Coronado Bridge approach above Logan Ave most recently went through revitalization in 2011. @chicanopark_museum @culturadelbarrio @barriologanmad
