For today's Zooly Art Challenge, I picked the Douglas squirrel (Tamiasciurus douglasii). This little pine squirrel is found throughout the Pacific Northwest west of the Cascades, and is known for its long, chittering call which gives it the nickname "chickaree". I didn't pick the most flattering angle for this particular depiction, but I wanted something dynamic and a little more challenging. I'm also pretty happy with how the fur turned out, given this is my first time drawing this species. Ink pen and Copic markers.

Tamiasciurus douglasii aka the Douglas Squirrel, Chickaree, or Pine squirrel is all of 10 to 14 inches from nose tip to tail tip. As you can see, the tail is half the squirrel!
Black-capped chickadee.
An American red squirrel on the lookout. I'm pretty sure it lives in my shed.
Source details and larger version.
I've squirreled away a modest collection of vintage squirrel imagery.
