ON THIS DAY - King of England Richard III died in 1485 at the Battle of Bosworth in Leicestershire.
The divisive king adopted the boar as his symbol in 1472, and court records show that thousands of small boar-shaped badges were produced for his coronation in 1483. Most were made of cheap bronze or pewter, but this one is silver and was once gilded. It was found in Chiddingly in the south of England, and may have belonged to a nobleman who supported the king. more
