Intro

I threw myself and my first fanfic into the SessKag fandom back in 2006 – which means that, somehow, 20 years have gone by.

I figured that was a significant enough number to celebrate, so thus, with the help of a council of a few fellow fandom dinosaurs, I came up with the Writerversary.

What is Chie's Writerversary?

My writerversary will be a year-long event: I'll write and post at least one (short) SessKag one shot every month in 2026.

Each month will also have a specific theme, based on tropes or other things I particularly enjoy writing.

And because it's no fun to celebrate all by my lonesome, I invite all of you to come and have fun with me!

How to participate?

There are three ways you can participate:

Each month's one shot will be based on a reader prompt, so please leave me prompts!

Other creators may hop in at any time! I'll be posting a list of the prompts I won't be using and have the permission to share every month. There's an AO3 collection to post your works to.

What's better than two bumbling idiots too stubborn to see what a good couple they would make or too awkward to chance the first move that might result in a relationship?  Adding the chaos of other people's benevolent interference into the mix!

Theme: Courtship shenanigans

Sesshoumaru had dedicated a significant amount of time to meticulous research in preparation of this evening. He had learned as much as he could about the human diet, a subject to which he had previously devoted very few thoughts. He had searched far and wide and consulted a lot of people to find out what kind of dishes were considered to be coveted delicacies, what kind of ingredients he would need to obtain. Locating and, hrmh, acquiring a prestigious chef had also required considerable effort on his part.

A pedantic purist might argue that he ought to prepare everything he intended to serve by his own hand, but Sesshoumaru was of the opinion that hiring help was a perfectly adequate way to establish his prowess of meeting the needs of his mate-to-be. He had procured the seafood and game personally, and with care. And while he hadn’t put time in gathering the vegetables and fruit and rice, they all had been cultivated and harvested on his lands. Just another way to prove he would be able to provide for that special someone he wanted to share his life with.

His fervent hope was that by the end of tonight, she would agree to do so.

The guests would start to arrive soon and Sesshoumaru would need to be on his best and most polite behaviour—even with Inuyasha. He also was not yet certain whether his mother would be in attendance or not, and was likewise undecided whether her potential absence would be more of an insult or a relief. But for now, he pushed all thoughts of his guest list aside and stalwartly ignored the persistent prickling of nerves. Instead, he focused on what he could control in this moment: the banquet itself.

Theme: Meet-cutes and Meet-uglies!

The theme of January are two opposite tropes that are familiar to us from all the good romcoms! Meet-cutes and meet-uglies both describe scenarios where our respective love interests meet each other for the first time, often in a memorable manner. Whether that meeting is sweet, romantic and full of those warm fluffy feelings, or an unfortunate mishap or other less than auspicious beginning... well, that remains to be seen.

Theme: SessMom Supremacy

It's not a huge secret that Sesshoumaru's mother is one of my favourite characters to write. She may have appeared in the series only briefly but left a huge impression. So for this theme, I'm looking for SessKag centric prompts that will feature Sesshoumaru's mother in some fashion. Will she be a matchmaker? An endless pain in Sesshoumaru's butt? Eager to bond with her daughter-in-law? Or, perhaps, all three at once? 👀

Here is the list that were submitted that I will not be using:

Happy ending

First Kiss

She falls in love first, he falls in love harder

Kagome is going to the modern era permanently (author determined reasons) and off-handedly invites Sess to meet her for coffee someday if he makes it to her time. He shows up the day after she returns, gifts in hand, to accept her offer of courtship

In a fit of pique Kagome throws Yasha out and shouts "I'd rather marry your brother!" Not realizing he had just arrived to visit Rin. Sess decides he is open to the idea.

Meet woof: Sesshoumaru is the owner of a kennel. After a positive first impression of him walking one of the dogs in the park, he proceeds to walk more dogs and less-controlled (not rabid!) dogs in an attempt to gain more of Kagome's attention. Naturally, this gets out of hand.

Kagome approaches Sango to learn Inuyoukai courting behaviors. Sess overhears and thinks it’s about his brother. Gets the surprise of his life when it’s him instead.

Sesshoumaru attempts to court Kags and has to go to Yash for advice. It does not go well.

Reverse courting shenanigans: Sesshomaru misunderstands a human custom and accidentally propositions Kagome (flowers, ring, chocolate, etc)

Kagome gives Sesshomaru and/or Rin food, inadvertently initiating a courtship

Kagome mentions/shows off her skills related to domestic activities, unaware this is considered display/seductive to an inuyokai

Thank you for everyone who left me a prompt for the first month! I have made my selection out of so many very good options and the writing muscles are already flexing. 😉

Here is the list that were submitted that I will not be using:

Sess is focused on his phone while walking, bumps into Kagome and spills coffee on her dress (fashion event, bridesmaid, something important or fancy, etc). She's angry. He's dismissive.

Kags wins a giveaway to have her home professionally decorated. Interior Decorator Sess is an ass about her personal taste.

Sesshoumaru needs help and the only priestess he knows that will probably not screw him over is Kagome

Sesshoumaru is spy saves Kagome from like a strike/raid/set up gone wrong or something, bonus points if he was undercover as a blue collar job like dock worker, security guard etc

Sesshoumaru in hiding in the modern age but runs into Kagome and she recognizes him so he tries to avoid her but they keep running into each other anyway

Complaining about the weather

I bought too much food

A gift that keeps on giving and giving and giving oh god make it stop

(post canon) They happen upon each other speed dating, and both of them are horrified.

(post canon) They accidentally reconnect through a dating app and don't realize its each other until the first date.

Kagome has a new, elusive neighbor, so curious to meet him, she keeps ordering stuff and having it "accidentally" sent to his house.

You dissed the book I was reading and spoiled the ending

My cat keeps escaping to hang out at your house and he's fully made himself at home

Oops looks like I keyed the wrong car
