    “This is it, Jigen! You ready?”  Lupin adjusted the leather gloves on his hands as the gunman gave him a nod. All the pieces were in place. There was a fairly complex laser grid, a state-of-the-art security system and on top of all of that, the artifact, a rather famous thing titled “Fruit du Démon” -- a petrified piece of ancient fruit said to bestow powers upon whoever ingested it.

Lupin was certain that the rumor only applied to when it was, you know... edible? But the story behind it made it such an irresistible target, he just HAD to steal it! Plus, it probably didn’t help that the museum’s curator was a pompous piece of crap that practically challenged him to do it.

Lupin stood before the laser grid and glanced over to Jigen. Grinning, they nodded and together, with a series of pulleys and ropes, made their way over the grid and into the next room. Weighted sensors greeted them, and using strange and bizarre technology, they procured some sort of bubble-making contraption that aided them down the hall, keeping their feet off the ground the whole way.

It was all very goofy. Lupin liked making a mockery of these security systems. The next step was getting the artifact out of the case without setting off the alarms. Lupin brought out a literal rock that was the exact size, shape, and weight of the fruit, and Jigen used a small laser to cut a hole in the glass, using a small plunger to keep the glass from falling inside.

Deep and steady breaths left their lips, and Lupin nodded at Jigen who pulled the glass free from the lasered hole. Reaching inside, Lupin set his gloved hand on the artifact and counted in his head. He’d have about 5 seconds to make the switch.

5... 4... 3... And he quickly exchanged the rock for the fruit and... 2... 1! The deed was done. Now, to escape! Lupin turned to Jigen, the gunman returning the look with a grin before a suddenly horrified look replaced it. Light filled the area around them...

    “Y’AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!”  Lupin and Jigen howled in unison. There was a feeling of sudden weightlessness before gravity suddenly plummeted them downwards. It felt as if they were falling through space, cutting through time into a whole other dimension!

Cries of shock and fear mixed with confusion came from the thieves as the blinding white light suddenly gained colors before spitting them out into a strange new world...

The Rogues were odd, compared to other groups of criminals. Len seemed to want to do good as well as crime-- which is why they didn't go after small businesses, they don't go after women and children. Mark didn't really argue it, he didn't care. They still did more than enough jobs to make money. And besides-- he had his own plans with Roscoe. At least, what The Top had told him. 

"I'm due back to check in with Captain Cold, come with me. I believe it's time for another pipeline rescue. Not really sure who got caught last time so I might not even join in." 

Mark wouldn't take no for an answer either, especially after they'd both already agreed. He didn't know how capable Sabo was as a fighter, but the blonde looked like he'd gotten into more than his fair share of scuffles. "Good chance to meet most of us though." 

The Wizard wanted to fly them there, but Sabo was insistent on driving. Mark got shotgun at least, if only because he had to show them where to go. When they finally do get there, Mark damn near kicks the door open with a flourish of his wind and grins. "Honey, I'm home!" And just who was he talking to? Sometimes the Wizard himself didn't even know. 

Sabo steps in beside Ace, looking around everything first before he settles on the Rogues here. Didn't Hartley say Captain Cold was another easy Rogue to get along with? 

"I have some new blood I ran into." As if the hickies on his neck didn't show that clear enough. "Ace here-- is a strong meta and also one of the owners at the Saber. I figured he'd fit right in."

Leaving the dogs alone in their apartment, no matter how big it was, was an uncomfortable situation for Ace. Now that he understood the urgency behind their would-be insurance salesman, he worried about the health of their dogs, the safety of them. But then, making friends with the Rogues would alleviate some of the threat, wouldn’t it? 

Ace was more than happy to lounge in the back on the drive over, listening to Mark and Sabo talk while he lay in and out of consciousness, lightly napping. 

The hideout itself was severely lacking, and rather dull. For men who enjoy booze and girls and all physical pleasures in excess- their base ran rather short of cleanliness or decoration. Ace didn’t care either, but it certainly spoke volumes of the group they were meeting.There they all were, collected at a table with cards and money- playing poker. The tv nearby played, but it was obviously just for background noise.

When the door flung open, they barely looked up-- until they realized that Mardon was not alone. 

Cold took his eyes away from his cards first, raising a brow. New Blood. A scowl plastered firmly across the man’s face as he sized up both. He wouldn’t take Mark’s word for granted; if Weather Wizard said Ace was strong, then it must be true. However, he would still take the time to gauge them for himself. He leaned back in his chair, putting his cards face-down on the table. “The Saber, huh?”

Not too far away, seated on the couch- since he would not dare lower himself to something as tedious as card games- was Roscoe. The Top. He sat up a little more when he also noticed Weather Wizard’s return, but what started as genuine happiness in those green eyes soon soured at the sight of those hickeys. “Ran into?” He questioned in that haughty tone of his, tilting his head back as if to hold himself above them. “That would explain the bruising, I suppose.” Yes, he was rather jealous. Mardon was his, regardless of what the other meta may believe. 

Unwilling to let Roscoe control the floor, Cold spoke again: “What can you do?”

Ace was all too willing to show off. Both hands held out, palms facing towards their hosts. Suddenly, both hands were engulfed in crackling flames, leaving him unburned. A cocky sort of half-grin pulled back on freckled cheeks as Ace let the others see his work. “But that’s not the best part,” he added, as he turned to Sabo and placed a fiery hand on the blonde’s shoulder. “I can also control who or what I burn.”

I'm pretty sure I heard you say that I was your first true friend you dork. But you know-- if we're being honest, you were mine too.

“Fine you caught me, I said it make fun of me all you want. Well anyway, that makes me happy to hear it is the same for you Sabo.”

“…”

“Grey Terminal…Despite everything, it was fun because of you.”

Teach was-- gone, but not GONE.  Ace could only be so cautious after everything-- after that awful netting which trapped both him and his witch, after what happened with the treacherous whale so many times already. He would hear the songs of passing pods of sperm whales and tense in response, always on the alert. He only became more distant after the birth of his child-- and after Luffy set out with her pod to explore the seas to her liking, leaving him behind with Sabo and Makani. 

Siring a calf with the witch would have been fine... if not for the dire circumstances that surrounded Ace at every waking moment, or the terrible accident that brought the child about.

He was innocent, but Ace still could not bring himself around the boy at first. It was hard for him, for many reasons-- but mostly because he knew he had damned the child for the rest of his life. Should it ever become known that he was the father (and how difficult would it be to realize such information?), then he would be condemned for harboring Ace’s blood, for sharing Roger’s blood. 

That was a fate which Ace never hoped to bring about to another, ever.

Abandoning Sabo and young Makani to their fate made him worse still. It made him just like Roger-- leaving behind mother and child to the cruel jaws of the world hoping to crush them under pressure. He refused to be like that, refused to leave them to their own devices. It took some time, but he finally started to come around, instead of logging outside the boat and keeping his distance as he had chosen before.

The morning was cold and foggy, a frosting chill settling over the sea. With a spray of exhale announcing his ascension, Ace broke the thin sheen of ice at the surface of the water and ventured closer to the edge of their new home. It wasn’t the same as the last, which had been destroyed in Teach’s attack, but it could be better... If given the chance.

Ace lifted himself part-way along the back slide-out, his rostrum pointed upward. He could not lift himself up all the way, far too big and too heavy. It would tip the entire ship over, and he knows it... But this would suffice. 

He was trying to reach out, for the first time in a long time. 

A soft whistling echoed out at first, hoping to catch their attention. He knows it would not erase how he has made her feel up until this point, but he could make amends and hope to never leave her feeling that way again.

Marco stops and tilts his head to look at Sabo. “Aren’t you a little too early to congratulate Oyaji? His birthday is in March, you know, yoi.”

If Dragon could see the grin in Sabo's mind he'd probably already be running. Arms are stretched out before hands hook behind the blonde's back. See? Not doing anything. Yet. "Iva was talking about you. And you know.. I can never quite tell when they're telling the truth or not."

He stirred, just subtly enough that it wasn’t a flinch. Frowning the slightest hint, he slowly turned the pages back and placed the folder on the desk, never taking his eyes off the younger. It had been one time. One time, years ago.

“Sabo,” Dragon spoke low in a warning. “Think carefully what action you choose to take.”
