This song is my new musical obsession (alongside a NicoNicoChorus of Nuyuri's 'Proto Disco', but I digress. It's not only a very, very beautiful song in its own right, but this is another song I'd put on a playlist for The SHSL Survivors' Society, if I was so inclined to make playlists.
This one would be about Chieko. The tone of the song in itself kind of just sounds like her general mood and feelings anyway, and the lyrics are kind of flowery (there's even a line about 'beautiful, radiant landscapes' and 'a pure blossom') which makes a funny kind of sense what with her being a former gardener, and now her having a sort of sad fondness for flowers.
But also, in some way, this describes her feelings towards Koutarou. While the song seems to be a little more about a definite romantic love, there are some lines that suggest a sort of ambiguity about the feelings ('I still know not of how love begins'), which fits with how Chieko felt about Koutarou in the days leading up to his death via execution. Also the narrator of the song literally mentions that the person she's mourning is someone she's known since childhood-Chieko and Koutarou were childhood friends. There's also a sense of helplessness and loss running through the entire song, and helplessness and loss are in some way themes of what everyone in The SHSL Survivors' Society have been experiencing with their, well, losses.
Wakana, Daisuke, Tyson and Chieko for the Headcannon thing! (you don't have to do all of four of those characters, if you don't want)
Of course! I’ll stick them under the ‘keep reading’ thingy
Wakana Abe, former SHSL Classical Composer:
A: With both her parents having been former SHSLs (father a Violinist, mother a Flautist), Wakana already knew a lot about Hope’s Peak before attending, and so in some ways she knew what to expect when she was invited there herself, and therefore it wasn’t as much of a culture shock for her as it might have been for other people. But that didn’t have any impact on her excitement in attending-no, the main reasons she was happy there was because Daisuke was attending with her, and because she was genuinely looking forward to making friends with her new classmates.
B: As a teenager, all her accessories, stationery etc. were music themed in some way, and even her bedroom had a musical theme with posters of classical musicians, her various instruments, and music-themed decorations, bedsheets etc.
(Okay, so that’s not exactly funny, but it turns out I’m not so great at hilarious headcanons so I suspect most of the B-option ones are gonna fall short…*sweat drop*)
C: Though Wakana pursues a musical career and is happy with her success, she no longer really wishes for being remembered even centuries after her death like other classical composers, like she once did before. This is because Daisuke won’t be remembered along with her-he was always the one who conducted her pieces, and perfectly so. They were meant to be a duo in the music world.
D: In a happy universe, where the killing game never happened and they got through Hope’s Peak just fine, the two of them would have been spending the summer of seven years later alternating between practising for a major concert, and tutoring a high school orchestra, hopefully inspiring some of those students in the process. Wakana would have definitely been all about inspiring this younger generation.
Daisuke Ueno, former SHSL Conductor
A: If there hadn’t been a SHSL Student Council President in the class that year to automatically take on the Class President role, then Daisuke would have probably fallen into that role, what with his natural leadership abilities. As it was, he was a sort of unofficial deputy to Akira that year, and they were a good team.
B: For some reason, during his time in Hope’s Peak, he kept stumbling into bizarre situations that always insisted on taking place right outside his dorm room door, or at least in that corridor. They always left him flustered. The most bizarre was a dance battle that he somehow ended up being made to judge.
C: Daisuke felt it was his duty to prevent killings from happening during the MKG, and with each death he became increasingly disheartened and angry. When he spotted Erica acting suspiciously, he didn’t even think about the risks to himself, he just went straight after her, in the hopes of preventing another death. Of course, that attempt ended in his death, as well as Kanekatsu’s.
D: See Wakana’s.
Tyson De Guerre, former SHSL World War 1 Aficionado. A: Tyson has always been good at art, so if he hadn’t become interested in World War 1, he would have probably pursued some sort of artistic career. He is particularly good at portraits.
B: He gets rather fuzzy over stuffed toys. He actually has one of his own-it’s a guinea pig, called Bart-Bart. The only reason he doesn’t collect any is because he barely has space in his flat for all his art materials and essential stuff.
C: Each time a motive was introduced, Tyson considered killing himself as a honourable sacrifice, so that the rest of his classmates wouldn’t be compelled to commit a murder and sully themselves that way. But, [slight spoiler], the one time he tried to actually make an attempt, after the Yukizome motive, his hands were trembling too much for him to carry it through. Nobody is aware of this though, since this happened while he was alone in his room.
D: In a happy universe, where the killing game never happened, he would have definitely become a closer friend to Yashiro. Where that would have led…well, we’ll never know. But they would have definitely been happy.
Chieko Akamine, former SHSL Gardener
A: As a little kid, she was always in motion, always wanting to do something, to play with her friends (especially Koutarou). Pretty much the only thing that could keep her still was watching her mother do the gardening.
B: There was a time when she tried to think of a suitable vegetable nickname to call Koutarou in response to him always calling her 'Moyashi’ ('beansprout’) and actually secretly made a dedicated list with pros and cons of different plants/vegetables. She got frustrated with it eventually and canned the project.
C: Even though there is no way to really get answers about how she felt about Koutarou, or how he felt about her, she still finds herself poring through her memories for some sort of hint or answer. But usually all it does is devastate her just a little more-the way thinking too much about Koutarou in any way does for her-, and she’s just as uncertain as before.
D: Perhaps one day, she’ll be able to return to gardening again.
And here we finally have it, the drawings I did of the SHSL Survivors Society cast as they appeared in their Hope's Peak days.Between trying to make sure the amount of overall pictures could fit in one photoset and despairing over my not-sp-great eraser, A5 sketchbook and the fact I'd never drawn a Mohawk or a beard of any sort, some of it was difficult, but I managed. So yeah, I hope you'll like these pictures
I haven't the slightest clue if Tumblr will post the pictures in the order they're arranged while I'm typing this, but underneath this chunky paragraph is a list of who is in each picture, going from the top to the bottom of how I'm looking at the pictures, and then where there is more than one character, I will name them from left to right. But hopefully from what's been described of them all in-story it should be easy to figure out who is who. So, here goes:
-Hideki
-Hokuto
-Oshiro and Erica
-Shiro
-Hironori
-Masashi and Noriko
-Hibiki and Akira
-Wakana, Daisuke and Kimihiro
-Koutarou and Chieko
-Kanekatsu, Yashiro and Tyson
Their full names and respective creators can be found on my FF profile
Remember when I posted about why I thought Mafumafu's 'Hazy Moon' reminded me of Chieko? Well, I decided to draw a picture of present-day Chieko in the outfit that the girl in the PV of that song wears. It didn't turn out as nice as I hoped (I was really hoping to do justice to how beautiful the PV is) but oh well
Drawing of Chieko in a field of daisies, which I will be making the cover image for The SHSL Survivors' Society. I wanted to draw a cover that featured all 7 Survivors, but couldn't make it work. So I did this, instead, and I like how it came out =D
