I think in the discourse about child free places and child friendly places, we've failed to understand a few things from the other side's perspective. Yes, it is totally reasonable to expect to take your kids to public places. Children need exposure to train how to behave in these situations. Being a child is not illegal. The fact that you're okay with loud music, flashing TVs, and drunks in public places but not kids means you're not wanting a peaceful experience, you're just bigoted against children, which is maladaptive and cringe.
And also! Yes, parents have been really, really crappy about teaching their children to behave in public. It's not okay for kids to behave the way they have in public places. It's okay to want child-free spaces specifically because children are disrespectful and uncontrolled. Since children rearing isn't a community project, you're not obligated to participate in training them either. Children are disrespectful of non-parental adults and it's okay to not want to be disrespected.
Child free places are bad for society, but it is not on the people who want child free places; it's on the people who raise children badly enough that child-free places are the logical result.
