There was a distant roar of battle, it splintered her breath into a stifled gasp and sent a sickly chill through her body. Her head snapped towards the source, the tension threading through the air made her hesitant to move in fear breaking it would lead to severe consequence. The Kirinite’s need to survey the possible threat pushed her forward, and after faintly wavering back, she jolted atop a nearby boulder.
Her agile form darted higher among the rocks until she reached a blunt peak. Large ears flickered and turned, yet her eyes remained locked to the edge of the earth. The subdued voices of this barren land erupted, dominated by a louder, more volatile barrage of spirits. One in particular sent biting terror to her bones. It was that of ancient darkness, one that rang for far longer than the stars themselves. It was unrelenting and suffocating, like an endless, dead winter.
Eden hadn’t realized how deep her teeth sank into the inside of her cheek until hot iron flowed over her tongue. She swallowed it back with a grimace, her tail swept over the dull grayed rock anxiously. Did she dare try seeking it out, or to tear off for safety? Would it be possible to run from such a force? She watched the misleadingly empty horizon, hoping to pinpoint where it would move before deciding the best course of action.
