So after the roof was clean, I taught the boys how to set the depth on a circular saw and cut out all the rot. They did most of the cutting. Then I sistered some dimensional lumber scraps on where the edge of the rafters were rotted, using twist-shank nails. Only the tops of the rafters were rotted, usually less than 1” deep and 2-4 inches along. I just needed solid meat to nail the decking patch to! The boys were baffled about how to accurately measure where the edge was all rotted, and I pretty much had to hand them the answer that you measure the good part, not the bad! The boys only work on this three days a week because my 14-year-old is technically a college student now! #building #girlswithtools #playhouse #diy #remodeling #shed #childlaboratitsfinest #homeschooling
