Cosmic horror is the most beautiful thing ever. Ever played a horror game and felt like even though it is stressful, it is still an escape from this world? This boring fucking world. Everytime i play Outlast or Amnesia i feel like i would fit in these worlds, maybe because i've created a bond with them, but maybe because there are no homework, no obligations, you really feel like since it is nothing but survival, you can truly prove your worth. In these worlds, if you like the climate and ambience they have/give off, the vibes they convey, you might just find someth relaxing in a horror game, depsite its' graphic nature.
Cosmic horror takes this idea to the utter maximum and reverses it. Imagien having these Outer Gods from a parasitic dimension crossing over to ours??? I don't mean this as in they would destroy everything and leave us in ruins, but rather as in being able to see these freaky abominations roaming the Earth everytime you go outside or just take a quick glance at your window. Tentacles and eyes staring at the people walking down the street. Sky red, black during the day, brownish maybe yellow-green-like during the night, amas of stars you can't even comprehend.
Just how different would the day-to-day like be? Compared to the natural horrors we have now. I just wish I could live in a world where every day I get to see a wonder in the sky. Instead I rely on youtube conspiracies and ghost videos to give myself a thrill, as in "maybe there's more to it than just what we are seeing now." Why do you think these videos of gigantic monsters on youtube work so well, statistics-wise?? Because even though we know it's fake, we want to believe in. Because real or not, it's entrancing to look at and think "maybe". Maybe this is real. It's a wrong belief, but it also feels right.
I think the true point of cosmic horror for some people is to find a place that's peaceful and restful for your own mind, as an escape to our own world.
I'm not sure if this makes sense to you but i assure you to me it means the world.
