Chillax sa Chilling Falls
Feb 19-20, 2011 – Kuala Kubu Baru, Malaysia. I was preparing a packet of Shellguard for Bukit Kutu, but then again nothing beats chillaxing at Chilling Falls. pun intended. Hehehe!! A lot of firsts on this trip. First time me and Gert trekking together. 1st time I’m on a real trekking outside my beloved Pinas! First time trekking on this part of SEAsia, Malaysia to be exact! I love it here it is like Pinas!! The sites, the sounds, and the hustle! Hehehe! So we were planning for Bukit Kutu –Yes kutu, lice, itchy, blood sucking, dog. Those are the tags that I can think of. So 6 of us coming from SG, Gert, Sir Onin, Mam Nicey, Sir Roland, and mam honey, di joke lang. Mam Che. Hehe! Got on a midnight bus from Johor Bahru to KL. Amazingly it only took about 4 hours to get to KL. We met up with a lady with an infectious laugh Mam Janis and Estong. After travelling for about an hour to Kuala Kubu Baru (KKB) we met-up with Amcee and 4 Mikes. Hehe!! The idea is for this, is to be a chillax climb; long slow treks and lots of rests. 1st stop to Chilling Falls!! 7 river crossings and about an hours trek. This has one of the highest drops that I’ve seen, as high as Casa Roro’s if not higher. The ledge on the side afforded us an elevated view of the falls, and a rainbow can be faintly seen beneath us, probably from the water mists. Right on top of the high drop, we got to the source the cool waters was very refreshing. We had our nasi lemak lunch, chillaxed some more and went down around 4 PM. Next stop: Bukit Kutu. So we intended to camp somewhere on the middle of this mountain, but before proceeding we got pelted by the heavy rain, and I think our driver does not have a clue where the Jump off point was. So we dropped by Kampong Peretaks eatery, hehe!, this guy was a rescue something on the jungles of Selangor. He was quite concerned, but there was a miscommunication somewhere, and it took a lot of our time. So he suggested we drop by the Orang Asli(Indigenous Tribes, I think) settlement to look for a guide. Then came Eddie, this guy is a guide, baker, designer, and all around outdoors guy. He promised to bring the group to Bukit Kutu the next day, but unfortunately for us from SG, we had to bail-out as we don’t have enough time and had to catch our bus back to SG by 1:30 PM. We camped out for the night at what seem to be a very dirty campsite, a lot of trash everywhere it was not very good. Morning came, the rest of the group went to climb Bukit Kutu, and for us we went for an hour drive to Frasier’s Hill or Freezer Hill. It was quite cold there, elevation is about 1200+ MASL. We strolled around for about an hour and took some pics. Then after a dizzying ride and a train that keeps going back and fourth, we got to our buses just on time. We failed to attempt the summit this time, but the Chilling falls was chillaxing enough. Thanks to mam Janis and Mam Amcees group, sa uulitin! Sarap ng Sinigang! And Teh Tarik for my new fave drink!! Enjoytheview. Ü
