CHILLWOLF YAYAAYYYYYY I LOVE CHILLWOLF.!!!!! (ragewolf/naughtyfins). THARS MY FAVORITE SHIP!!!! I've a little blurb under the hood.
just a note though.. I don't mind multi shipping (perhaps with some exceptions) and engage with it often.
I'll preface this by saying that I'm an ABSOLUTE sucker for hurt/comfort with a little spice, which is what chillwolf is at its core.
Most of what I'll be saying here is really just my own interpretation and might contradict or derail from the original story (mostly because I'm forgetful).
So, the deal with chillwolf is that both of them are internally looking for comfort and have the chance to find it in each other. With Fins' issues with self-image and identity sprouting from her status as a Dark Hero and Ragewolf's nebulous history as Makoton, which is a whole angst package in itself (although he doesn't remember it at first).
Ragewolf houses a deeper pain within himself yet he can't help but be affectionate/caring towards Fins because he understands her inner turmoil the best.
Meanwhile Fins softens the rougher sides of him, and brings that gentler interaction that he needs (speaking to his inner Makoton). Although she's still quite playful and aggravates him from time to time to keep him on his toes.
There's also a moon and sea theme between the two of them. The sea reflects the moon while the moon influences the tides. In this vein, Fins represents that naive or innocent side of Ragewolf/Makoton that was lost long ago. She's a chance for him to do something good.
But while Ragewolf tries or wishes to intervene in Fins' fate, he ultimately cannot do anything, which really just reinforces his arc as Makoton and his failures (shaming the Hero for not being able to save Fins; going back to the Dark Hideout and getting killed when he asks about her whereabouts).
[DISCLAIMER: I don't know what happens to Ragewolf if the Hero saves Naughtyfins.]
One additional point on their dynamic, they're the grumpy/cold and clingy/sensitive type of pairing which I also love sooo much. This speaks for itself (and is a very popular dynamic) so I won't bother elaborating.
But what happens after??? Assuming that Ragewolf turns back into Makoton (which I don't believe). Well, this can go two ways.... Either heromakoprincess is established pre-Patapon 3 and they just continue off of that without the hero (Frick my life). OR (which is more fun), makoprincess meet for the first time post-Patapon 3, which results in some shenanigans and 'getting to know each other again'. But I won't talk about that any more since it's a whole other can of worms.
So, in conclusion. Chillwolf was genetically engineered in a lab for me, what with their common issues of identity and finding comfort in each other. The two of them just have so much love to give (although with a little extra effort on Ragewolf's part) and that applies to their original identities as well. YAYYY CHILLWOLF!!!!!!!
