#tbt #silverbackgorilla #chimanuka chillin & having some leaves🌱🌿.. it took willpower to not run out of the #forest lol..but he and his family are one of two groups socialized minimally with humans, and of 5 tracked by #Kahuzi#Biega Rangers and #Twaa #people of #congo #DRC #animal #Africa #nature in light of recent events to mine/ drill in the forests I remembered this awesome & scary experience 🦍 (at Kahuzi-Biéga National Park)

#chimanuka charged and the Rangers told us to keep calm and maintain eye contact.. Eeerm lets just say it took willpower to not run out of the #forest because he could just decide to end you lol..but he and his family are one of two groups socialized minimally with humans (6 total at once) and of 5 tracked by #Kahuzi#Biega Rangers and #Twaa #people of #congo #DRC ..there are countless groups that are impossible to track...#animal #Africa #nature

Fortunate to see a #silverback #lowland #gorilla in #Kahuzi-Biega in #DRC yesterday..his name is #chimanuka and has a family of 25 (females and children) . A 1.5 hour open bakkie ride on whatever passed for a road with Rangers and a 1.5 hour hike to track him was terrifying but worth it. I was fearful but fascinates #animal #nature #congo (at Parc national de Kahuzi-Biega, DRC)
