The completion of our final week in China is near. As I reflect on the last few weeks, I realize that we've all learned a lot about our clients, each other and ourselves. We will present our final recommendations tomorrow, and have the closing ceremonies and media event on Friday. At the risk of repeating myself, I am overwhelmingly grateful for this opportunity and to my family, especially my spouse Sherry for supporting me in this endeavor. Xie xie (thank you)!
On Friday we had the honor of participating in a workshop with the Nanning Women Entrepreneurs Association. Topics were leadership, personal branding and work life balance. 2 of the entrepreneurs, a lawyer and a restauranteur shared their advice as well. It was a very pleasant and insightful afternoon. After the workshop, the 5 men from our team joined us for dinner, dancing and singing. Suffice it to say, a good time was had by all!
Our client continues to be creative with meeting venues. Yesterday we met at a karaoke place, warmed up with a few songs, then each one of us shared stories of our own volunteer experiences, as this was part of the deliverable requested by our client. We talked for about 2 hours, then closed out the meeting with a couple more songs including some Chinese traditional, Yellow Submarine, and Poker Face (Lady Gaga). #ibmcsc #china28

After a great Labor Day weekend trip to Guilin and Yangshou, we are back to work tomorrow to prepare for a midterm review of our deliverables for our client and a Leadership Workshop for Women Entrepreneurs. Now there are no more holidays and 2 weeks to finish. Hard to believe our assignment is halfway over. #ibmcsc #china28
Yesterday I had the opportunity to join the guys for their Best Practices for NGOs Workshop. They did a fabulous job and were well received by the audience. Next week the women in our group will deliver a workshop for Women Entrepreneurs. #ibmcsc #china28
In our meeting with the client yesterday we were able to agree on our final Statement of Work (SOW). In other words we summarized the deliverables that our IBM CSC team would create and discussed the client's priorities. Bagui, our client, is made up of all volunteers including the Board. Our client is very welcoming and hospitable. They are also very generous in sharing their culture. Before our meeting in a Tea House, they took us through a beautiful park filled with people walking, dancing, playing card games and of course, practicing tai chi. Here you see the Deputy General modeling a gardener's hat, a dance class, one of our hosts serenading us in the tea house with music from her traditional Drum ethnic group stringed instrument, and last but not least, a shot of our actual meeting and another of our hosts making us various kinds of tea. I am very grateful for this opportunity and overwhelmed with the graciousness of our client.
