Transition to Veganhood #4: alphabet foods
Inspired by Cassey Ho’s abc-workout, here’s a list of alphabetical Asian-inspired veggies!
A: A-choy
B: bittermelon
C: chives (jiu cai)
D: daikon
E: edamame
F: fungus (snow fungus, wood ear fungus) 雲耳,木耳
G: gai Choy (mustard greens) 芥菜
H: hup jirng gua(chayote) 合掌瓜
I: indigo rose tomato (wtf? I really had to look this up)
J: Jiang dou (long bean/ cowpea) 豇豆/長豆
K: kale or kimchi or kabocha squash
L: lotus root 蓮藕
M: mo qua (fuzzy melon) 毛瓜/節瓜
N: napa cabbage
O: on-Choy
P: Perilla/shi-so (need to try)
Q: Qing choi (greenish pak Choy)
R: red kuri squash (need to try)
S: snow pea shoots (豆苗)
T: tong choy
U: u-choy
V: Vietnamese balm (???)
W: wintermelon
X: xanthan gum
Y: yu choy 油菜
Z: ze gua (sponge gourd) 絲瓜
This was not an easy task, including a walk with my mom to pick her brain plus the rest of my night on google and using Chinese dictionaries. Screw you, dumb letters: i, x and v!
But now the list is made, perhaps cooking with each of these ingredients this week!
