England, circa 1770 A fine #18thcentury #mahogany centre table, the top above a #chinoiserie blind #fretwork #frieze finished on all sides and raised on square #chamfered legs with pierced spandrels and fabulous #geometric block feet made up of seven raised triangles on each leg. Height 85cm Width 121cm Depth 61cm The #Gentleman and Cabinet-maker's Director by Thomas #Chippendale, 1754 records a number of very similar #Chinese inspired chinoiserie fretwork panels. These #decorations were either used with pierced work or applied flat as are the present panels on this fine centre table. When applied flat, the decoration is called ' blind fret '.
