Before becoming a nun at the capuchin convent of San Felipe de Jesús in Mexico CIty, we can easily say that María Ana was quite fashionable: her jewellery (gold necklace and pearl bracelets), a chatelaine, fan, handkerchief, black top and stripes petticoat (fuck yeah that combo), and of course a see-through chemisette, a chiqueador and those bows. Not even I get those bows. LOL.

She was the daughter of our dearest painter Miguel Cabrera, and don’t be surprised that the portrait is not by him, since he died in 1768.

Love your posts about New Spain! Does "chiqueadores" reference anything in Spanish? I know in France the patches were referred to as "les mouches" meaning flies since they must have looked like big fat flies stuck to people's faces. Très charmant! lol

Back in the day I’m not entirely sure what would that literally mean in English, but nowadays we say “chiqueado(a)” as “spoiled”, in the sense of saying “you’re such an spoiled child” or “you should get spoiled from time to time”. “Chiqueador” would mean something in the lines of “something to spoil/treat yourself”.
