Secret Santa!
Dear @chiratera
I hope you like the story. I tried to center it around christmas and snow, but the feelings kept coming. I personally love Rapunzel too, and I enjoyed imagining her with sisters rather than just with Flynn. Anyways, I hope you like it and Merry Christmas!
It’s a cold Saturday morning with snowflakes hitting the windows and half burnt logs still cracking in the chimney. Rapunzel opened her eyes and blinked away some of the left over sleepiness. She smiled as a muscular arm tightened around her chest and she heard a across the bed. “What time is it?” Flynn’s groggy voice asked, “Almost 8 in the morning,” she said, disentangling his arm from her chest so she could get up from the bed. She stretched her arms as she rose from the bed and walked over to the sofa by the window. The snow was a little thicker now and there was a thick blanket of it on the streets and stretched to the mountains. “Flynn, you should see this. It’s beautiful” She said, and received a groan as response. She stifled a low chuckle. All right, just sleep it off she thought. She walked over to the bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror. Her short brunette hair was messy and tied in knots all over, so she slowly started to untangle them and as a force of habit started humming her song. It wasn’t that the song made her sad; it was that it reminded her of the wasted time she spent in the tower with Gothel. Sometimes, she still had nightmares about those years. She would wake up in the tower, all alone. She’d walk to the window and look for the lights, but they never appeared. And just as she would hear steps nearing the door, she would wake up, usually because she would wake Flynn up with her sobs. There were not enough words in the world to even begin to describe what she felt for Flynn; she was in love beyond measure and his love was what kept her from descending into depression. She was truly lucky.
Once she finished with her hair, she put on her pink winter dress and put her purple cloak over. She wasn’t too used to the cold weather in Arendelle’s winters, but Anna kept insisting on her spending some time there with her, Elsa, and Kristoff. She walked out the main doors and onto the courtyard of the palace, where Elsa was sitting on a bench reading a book. “Hi Elsa!” she said as she got closer. Elsa looked up and smiled at her. “Morning. Why are you up so early?” Rapunzel walked around and sat next to her on the small bench. “Well, I usually wake up at 7. Now, with Flynn, I feel so nice and calm that I don’t want to wake up,” she said with a small smile. “That’s very sweet!,” Elsa said with a smile. “What about you? Why are you up so early?” she asked. “I like the mornings around here. Its quieter, less hectic, and I can just sit here without having people come to me with official Arendelle business.” She said the last three words with a deeper mocking voice. Rapunzel chuckled “I can imagine that must get annoying,” “Not annoying, just a little dull after a while. Of course, having Anna on the Royal Council is usually fun. You know she makes a different themed pastry for every single council meeting?” Elsa said with so much warmth in her voice that it could have melted the snow around them. “That does sound like Anna” Rapunzel said with a smile. At that moment, Rapunzel felt a terrible cold mass hit the back of her head and a girly laugh follow it. She turned and saw Anna laughing like there was no tomorrow. “Good morning, Rapunzel. I just thought you might need it after such a long night!”
They had spent last night all sitting around the chimney drinking hot chocolate and telling stories from their childhood. Rapunzel never had anyone to talk to when she was a girl and she found it so nice to hear Anna and Elsa talk about the time before the “incident.” “Oh is that so?” Rapunzel said, getting up from the bench and turning to face Anna. “Well, you were up late too. So you might also need one.” With almost inhuman speed, she grabbed some snow and threw a flimsy snowball at Anna’s face. She laughed as it hit her chest and picked up more snow to make another snowball. As she was lifting her arm to throw it, the snow melted through her fingers. “Guys, let’s not do this again. You both just got over a cold caused by this exact reason.” Elsa said, not looking up from her book. “Oh, Elsa you need to chill” Anna said as she picked up even more snow and threw one at Elsa’s head. Before it could hit, it melted mid air. Elsa lifted her blue eyes from her book and chuckled a “C’mon Anna, you can’t possibly think that would work.” She then proceeded to stand up, lift her arms, and made about 50 snowballs appear out of thin air. “Now this, on the other hand, can’t fail.” And she flicked her hands, sending the snowballs flying in Anna’s direction. Anna only had time to widen her eyes and shield her face before one hit her head and the rest melted. “You didn’t think I would hit you with 50 snowballs did you?” Elsa said, barely containing her laughter. Anna’s cheeks turned crimson and she narrowed her eyes at her older sister. “Oh Elsa, this means war.” She then turned around and walked into the castle. “That should be interesting,” Elsa said in a wondering voice.
Rapunzel had just sat on the bench and watched them interact. She had always wanted a sibling. Watching Anna and Elsa be so happy with each other, teasing and all, it made her slightly jealous. Flynn had grown up in a children’s home, so he grew up with tons of “siblings.” Her parents had been so heartbroken after her kidnapping that they never even considered having another child. “Rapunzel? Are you okay?” She hadn’t realized Elsa had been asking her a question. “Oh, I’m sorry. Did you say something?” She asked absentmindedly. “I was asking you if you wanted some tea” Elsa said with a slight frown. “Oh, no I’m okay. Thanks though,” she answered with a smile. “What’s wrong?” Elsa asked with concern showing on her face. Rapunzel smiled a sad smile. “Nothing, I was just enviously looking at the way that you and Anna are. You are so lucky that you have her. I didn’t have anyone but Pascal and Gothel to keep me company.” She shuddered as she remembered Gothel and her time in the tower. “I know how you feel. For years, I stayed in my room for fear I would hurt someone as I had hurt Anna. I felt like I was a hazard.” Rapunzel took Elsa’s hand and squeezed it. “Well, it seems my childhood wasn’t the only lonely one. But now you have Anna without the fear.” “And now you have Flynn” Elsa said with a smile. “And hey, maybe you didn’t have any siblings growing up with that awful woman, but you have two sisters now.” Elsa said, pulling Rapunzel up from the bench and walking towards the fountain in the center of the courtyard. She dipped a finger on the water and it froze completely, forming beautiful swirls with the water sprouting at the top of the fountain. Rapunzel smiled at it and looked back at Elsa, “It’ll be nice to have sisters.”
Hours later, after Flynn and Kristoff had finally gotten up and they had all had breakfast, they decided to go for a walk around Arendelle. Even though it was colder than she had ever been, Rapunzel was having the best time walking around and just watching Arendelle being. The baker and his fresh bread, the butcher and his wife arguing over a huge ham on the counter, and Rapunzel’s favorite person in town, Oaken restocking for his outpost. “Yoohoo!” He said with a big smile and a wave in their direction. She waved back, God she loved Arendelle so much. She loved the people and the warmth that radiated from everyone. Not only did Anna and Elsa love the kingdom with all their being, they all loved Anna and Elsa like they were all their daughters, which in a way they were. They arrived at the main plaza of the town and all stood in a circle. “Everybody ready?” Elsa asked. They all said yes in unison and Elsa clapped her hands and turned the plaza in a huge ice skating rink. This was Elsa’s favorite town activity because after being used to hiding her powers, it made her so happy to see people be so joyful because of them. “Rapunzel, c’mon,” Flynn said tugging her arm. She wobbled forward and fell backwards in less than 30 seconds. “I can’t believe you still haven’t gotten the hang of it!” Flynn said, helping her up. “It’s not that easy!” she said reproachfully as she stood up. “Oh Rapunzel, you just need to relax and trust your body. It’ll carry you.” Anna said as she gracefully glided over to her. “Its easy for you to say, you have been skating since you were born,” Kristoff’s voice came as he joined in the small group. He and Anna were very serious now, practically waiting for the proposal Anna always said. Elsa on the other hand was not serious about anyone at all. She had suitors come in from kingdom after kingdom, suitors who fell in love with her within minutes of meeting her, but she turned them all down. “I have a kingdom to love, that is more than enough” she always said. Rapunzel couldn’t believe just how different Anna and Elsa were, yet how wonderfully they got along. She couldn’t help but feel as though the family she always wanted was expanding every day. Elsa glided over and took Rapunzel’s hand. “Here, let me help.” With a flick of her hand, Rapunzel’s skates became about 2 inches thicker and she had more balance. She could at least glide without falling over every two minutes, which was a huge improvement.
That night, they all sat around the fire with a steamy cup of hot chocolate, their own nightly routine. It had been such an amazing week that Rapunzel really thought about staying longer, but her parents missed her terribly. Her and Flynn would leave in 2 days and the end of her time with sisters seemed closer than ever. “Okay, I have limited time here in Arendelle. What is something I HAVE to do before I leave” Rapunzel asked excitedly. Anna and Elsa looked at each other and Anna asked, “Do you wanna build a snowman?” They all ran to the main ballroom and Elsa made a small winter wonderland just for the 5 of them. Rapunzel and Flynn built a small snowman that looked more like a pile of snow than anything, but they decided to name it Ralph anyways. Kristoff and Anna were making a fort for their famous “Annual Super Snowball Fight War,” and Elsa was making hills so they could slide down on ice sleds. Just as she was finishing off her 3rd hill, Anna yelled and threw a massive snowball straight up. As Elsa looked up, she threw a snowball straight at her face and it completely caught her off guard. Elsa was too shocked to move, Anna had never caught her by surprise with a snowball. Anna was rolling on the snow laughing and yelling “I got you! I got you!” Even Kristoff looked surprised, “How did you think of that?” he asked her. “Flynn gave me the idea,” Anna said, pointing at Flynn with her thumb. “The thieving lifestyle teaches you a thing or two about distracting people” Flynn said with a shrug and a smile. “Anna, I gotta say. I am very impressed,” Elsa said, shaking snow off her hair. “Well it was about time, I’ve been trying for years!” Anna said, standing up and high fiving her sister. “Flynn, you helped Anna catch a snow queen by surprise. I am impressed too,” Rapunzel said, getting on her tiptoes to give him a peck. “Meh,” Kristoff said as he got back to working on the fort. “Oh I’m sorry, was that not good enough for you?” Flynn said, walking over to Kristoff. “I mean it was fine, but not that impressive.” Kristoff said, getting up and facing Flynn. “Boys” Rapunzel cautioned. “Oh yea?” Flynn said, puffing up his chest. “Yea” Kristoff said. “I’ll teach you,” Flynn said, running around the fort and ducking to pick up snow. By the time he got back up, Kristoff had 3 snowballs ready and they all landed on his face. It appeared as though the “Annual Super Snowball Fight War” had started. “Men” Anna and Rapunzel said at the same time. They laughingly got in position and started throwing snowballs as well. It didn’t really matter at who, it was just for the fun of throwing snowballs. Elsa created 4 catapults and filled them with snow. They all fired and reloaded faster than any of them could make snowballs, but the determination didn’t stop.
It was this mental picture that Rapunzel had when she stepped on the boat 2 nights later. The picture of her sisters, her soon to be brother in law by proxy, and her true love, all having fun and laughing. She couldn’t help but smile at how lucky she was, and how quickly she had grown from having no family to having an ever growing family.
Little did she know that when she would arrive back in Corona two weeks later, she would find out that her family would increase yet again.
Happy birthday!! *☆。ヽ(^▽^)ノ。❁*
