Another Hogwarts Acceptance Letter and Other Film Props Up for Auction
Lots of Harry Potter film props are being auctioned off over the next few weeks, including a few items used on-screen.
On June 22, Chiswick Auctions in London is selling one of the sealed Hogwarts acceptance letters that attempts to reach Harry at the Dursleys’ in the first film. This particular prop not only includes the original unbroken red wax seal, making it a special rarity, but also a copy of the acceptance letter so that the new owner can leave the seal intact. The letter is estimated to sell for between £10,000-£12,000 (approx. $12,300-$14,800). In 2022, Ewbank’s Auctions sold a similar letter valued at the same amount for the highest estimate.
Bonhams auction house has had several rare film props included in two auctions, with a couple of screen-used Harry Potter props among the offerings.
A Bonhams auction in London on May 24 included one of the Gryffindor Quidditch jumpers worn by Daniel Radcliffe in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, which sold for £8,320 (approx. $10,270). An original watercolor costume design for Rubeus Hagrid, featuring the design used in both the first and second films, was also sold for £1,024 (approx. $1,264).
Another Bonhams auction is scheduled for June 6 in Los Angeles. This auction includes one of Remus Lupin’s resin wands, used onscreen by David Thewlis, and Draco Malfoy’s Nimbus 2001 broomstick, as seen in Chamber of Secrets. Lupin’s wand is projected to sell for $2,000-$4,000; while the Nimbus 2001 is estimated at $70,000-$90,000.
Both the wand and broom will be on display in Bonhams’s Sunset Boulevard saleroom in Los Angeles starting on June 2. Fans are welcome to visit the saleroom and have their picture taken with the props during the preview!
