Crunch
A sound, gruesome, even if only in singularity. Echoing through the dark alleys, it heralded an end unseen. It would have been ominous, if it hadn’t been from a mere rat, small form engulfed into what could have been a shadow at first blink. A cling to a life fading brought another muffled snap, the struggles ceasing quickly as the form of what could look like a boy in low light stared upon the limp form embedded in his side. ‘Don’t go-Not so soon!’ A cry of dismay rippled out in the alley, turning to a sob of grief. The second friend today, this one much smaller than the last, that had left him behind with a bundle of empty fur. Why were they always so quiet? Crunch. Another small snap of bones sounded as he shifted back against the wall, curling into the corner with a whine, preoccupied now fully with the grey fur under inky near-fingers.
