it's over - [onionthief/alatusnxmeseos]

HI #bloomingpanic nation i wrote some onion/al (my bpsona) angst a while back and thought id share it here too nyeheh... they go to the same school and it's been some since post-grad (the time when they broke up). basically al moves out of their and onion's shared flat, and onion helps finish moving the last of their boxes into their new place. the title is based on Palace's song 'It's Over' which i'd imagine would play as onion drives off AHAH neways enjoy

⠀⠀"Phew... would've taken the entire day without your help- you didn't really have to, but thanks again..."

Onion takes a moment to process it all. Strange. This was much like the day the two of them moved in together—the sky was of pink and purple hues, too. A cold breeze brushing the back of his neck brings him back to the present.

⠀⠀"... I guess this is where we part ways." he chokes out.

And the knot in Al's chest grows tighter.

It never really crossed their mind how things between them would end. And now that it was happening, it hurt. It hurt immensely. A family of four adopted kids; committing to such a thing only seemed like an opportunity to worsen the issues Al has still yet to recover from. So why keep him shackled when there were seven billion other people out there who could easily fulfill his lifelong dream?

They muster whatever energy they could to form a smile, leaning away from the door frame and nudging his shoulder with a loose fist.

⠀⠀"Last I checked you took comp-sci, not theatre."

Onion snorts. Ah, how they'll miss that sound.

⠀⠀"Al."

Their breath hitches. But silence quickly follows as Onion struggles to find the right words to say.

Keep in touch? See you later? Or maybe, Have a nice life? God, these phrases were far from telling how much he'll miss the feeling of their warmth by his side.

Meanwhile, it is taking everything in Al to not wrap him in a tight embrace. Al could never do that. Not now, not even after. After all, it was always Onion who said not to compromise yourself for others, no matter what.

⠀⠀"Aluede."

...

⠀⠀"Onion."

⠀⠀"Alatus."

There was a pregnant pause. It just didn't feel the same anymore.

⠀⠀"Have a safe drive."

The door closes with a resounding click.
