3am Cravings

#LoveHacks- Mark x MC (Dani)

An OTP ask from @darley1101 for Mark and MC “Suggests a 3am trip to McDonald’s. This is one of two ideas I had for that prompt and maybe I’ll do the second one someday. It’s a bit long for a drabble and short for a one-shot. I have no idea on the word count since it was written in my drabble file... Either way, I hope you like my second attempt at lovehacks and if you do, like, comment or reblog! I appreciate every single note!

“Mark… Mark… wake up.”

“Huh?” He asked whoever was shaking his arm. His eyes slowly came into focus on his wife Dani, propped up on her elbow and smiling down at him. Oh shit, this is it… this is it! “Is it time?!” He asked loudly, his heart thumping against his chest.

“No, I just…”

He launched himself off the bed, taking half the sheet with him, tripping on the fabric wrapped around his feet. He hit the ground with a huff, not feeling a thing thanks to the adrenaline rushing through his veins. “I’m up! I’m up!” he yelled as he popped back up and started darting around the room.

“Mark!”

“Ok, we need the bag… I need to call the gang… I need to call our parents!” The doctor said his daughter could come at any time and he wanted to be prepared. He packed Dani’s hospital bag a week ago and she made fun of him. Ha! This showed her! She was still two weeks from her due date and here he was running around the house like a madman in the middle of the night. He yanked open the closet door and rifled through her clothes, what would she be comfortable in? He couldn’t see a damn thing. He didn’t have pants on… he needed pants. He ran to his dresser, pulling out a pair of sweats and putting his legs through the cuffs. Nearly falling over, he caught himself on the edge of the dresser, maybe he shouldn't have tried pushing both legs through at once.

“Mark! Stop!” Dani yelled, reaching over and turning on the lamp on her nightstand.

He stopped, finally registering her voice and took a deep breath. He had to calm down, Dani would need him calm. “Everything’s going to fine. We planned for this.” He said as he walked back to the bed to help her up.

“For crying out loud Mark, it’s not time!”

“It’s not?” His chest deflates as he processes her words, he wanted so badly to meet his daughter. “What did you wake me up for?!”

She pouted guiltily, “Never mind… it seems really stupid now.”

“Are you feeling ok?” He sat on her side of the bed and lifted her chin to look in her eyes. She had to have woken him up for a reason. She looked ok… slightly disheveled from sleep but otherwise fine.

“I’m fine.” She smiled reassuringly. “I just… I woke up and I wanted…” she looked down and sighed, “forget it. You’re going to be mad.”

“I promise I won’t be mad. What did you want?” She remained silent. “Come on, tell me.”

“McDonald’s fries.” She said pitifully, looking up through her lashes with her lips in an adorable pout.

He glanced at the clock, “Dani, it’s 3am…” He read about crazy pregnancy cravings and he counted himself lucky that hers was simple enough. McDonald’s fries drizzled with pickle juice. At least her habit of dipping them in a shake passed with her second trimester. Because that had been gross.

“I know.”

“I have to get up for work at 6…” Even as he made the argument, he knew full well he was going to McDonald’s. She looked so damn cute, pouting with her puppy dog eyes.

“I know.”

He sighed and stood up, picking up his shirt from the previous day and putting it on. He would look like a fool with a button down shirt and sweats, but he didn’t think the drunk idiots at McDonald’s at 3am would care too much. He certainly hadn’t when he was one of those drunk idiots.

“Mark seriously, just come back to bed. I can get my fries tomorrow.”

He walked around to her side of the bed and bent down, kissing her sweetly, “If my two girls want fries, then they are getting fries.”

“We love you.” She smiled, her blue eyes sparkling in the lamplight.

That right there, that happiness on her face was why he was going out for fries in the middle of the night. “I love you too. I’ll be back soon.” She settled back into the bed and he knew she was going to be sleeping by the time he got home. It didn’t matter to him, all that mattered was that she knew he would do anything for them.

He headed to the front door, remembering at the last minute to check that they had a jar of pickles in the fridge. “Of course, not…” He sighed when he saw the empty spot in the door, “Looks like I’m going to the grocery store too.”
