people criticize #blacklivesmatter for being maliciously exclusive of the plights of other races - but isn't it their struggle and movement anyways? why would anyone assume that the people who say 'black lives matter' would think differently about other races? police brutality disproportionately affects black people and the stimuli for these protests were the preventable deaths of unarmed black teens so? do people not see how #alllivesmatter and #bluelivesmatter can be inflammatory? wdyt

That’s a fair point. I honestly don’t know how I feel about the whole issue myself. I just didn’t like the vandalism picture, that’s all.

I remember seeing a post on my dash lauding Beyoncé for being a feminist but can't remember its exact contents.. to add onto the-chuck-man's ask: the tendency you've noticed is a product of social categorization and the category accentuation effect. the most basic form of social categorization is the allocation of people into us (ingroup) vs them (outgroup) categories. the perceived variability within ingroups is reduced while the perceived differences between groups is exaggerated.

Yup! It’s definitely true. I remember learning about this in Social Psych this past semester and thinking about how that bias and so many others were prevalent in the feminist movement. :P
