Your quiet sniffles could be heard clearly in the empty apartment. You tried to contain your sobs, not wanting him to hear you.
It was no use though. He had already heard you.
Your head turned as Seonghwa entered the living room, pulling his suit as behind him. You looked away as he glanced up at you. Seeing the state you were in broke his heart but there was no other way around this. Sooner or later it was bound to happen.
You froze as he walked past you toward the door. He stopped to look back at you. How he wanted to stay and reassure you that everything would be okay but he couldn't. He'd already done too much damage and it would only do more harm than good if he tried to fix this now.
"I told you not to get your hopes up," he said quietly. Your chest tightened as you attempted to conceal your cries from him. You didn't want to let him see how much you were hurting.
He could see it anyway. You were never good at hiding your emotions from him. He could read you like a book.
"I won't keep apologizing. I know it doesn't help." You looked up as he opened the door, his head turned so he wouldn't have to see the tears streaming down your cheeks. If he did, he wouldn't be able to stop himself from going back on his word.
As he stepped out into the hall, your voice came to him, soft and weak, saying the words he never wanted to hear come from you.
"Please don't come back," you whispered to him, not noticing the way he froze and glanced back over his shoulder. He had done this so many times. Waltzing back into your life whenever he felt like it only to leave again. He never understood why you kept taking him back but he knew this time that you were done.
Done with it all. Done with him.
Clearing his throat to make sure his voice was steady even though tears formed in the corner of his eyes he spoke.
"I won't."
