I'm a beginner Lolita, with one classic coord, and I wanted to switch over to gothic but still wanted to be classic. Is it okay to have 2 substyles, neither one more dominant, and/or mix styles to have a more gothic-classic style?
Some Lolitas choose to stick to one style but a lot of us don’t. You can wear one style all the time or you can wear Classic Lolita one day and Gothic the next and Sweet the next and Punk the next, or you can combine styles into one coord. It is definitely not rare to see a Lolita pulling elements from different styles and wearing them together in one coord. It’s a good way to get creative with your coords, deciding what you want to use from each style and finding a cohesive way to blend them.If you find that you have a tight budget it may be best to stick to one style for a little while as you build your wardrobe because having all your pieces in the same style gives you a lot of versatility but this isn’t completely necessary, especially if you want to combine the styles and consider that when making your purchases.
