Chorreador is a traditional Costa Rican coffee brewing method that produces a rich and flavorful cup of coffee. This recipe showcases the beauty of slow, manual pour-over brewing.
Ingredients: 3 tablespoons coarsely ground coffee beans. 16 ounces 475 ml hot water, just off the boil.
Instructions: Put the Chorreador on a strong cup or mug. Put the coffee grounds that aren't very fine into the Chorreador filter. Bring water to a temperature just below boiling, which is about 93F 200C. Add a little hot water about 2 ounces slowly to the coffee grounds to cover them all. Give it 30 seconds to bloom. Slowly pour the rest of the hot water around the coffee grounds in a circle, making sure they are all wet. Pour the coffee into your mug or carafe by letting it drip through the filter. It should take three to four minutes to do this. Take off the Chorreador and enjoy your pour-over coffee that was just made.

This traditional chorreador with a wooden frame and cloth basket makes such flavorful espresso, especially when you use Tarrazzu beans roasted in the area! #CostaRica #Coffee #Espresso #tradition #Tarrazzu #quality #volcanic #PuraVida #ginger #GingerBeard #beardlove #chorreador (at Westin Playa Conchal - Costa Rica)

Farmers in Costa Rica (where some of the least bitter freakin awesome coffee you’ve ever had comes from,) use one of these. It’s a tightly woven canvas sock with a metal wire sewn into the top. You don’t need the wood pedestal, … you can also just hold the metal handle if you have a glove and aren’t pouring too much (handle gets hot.) Photo from http://www.survivalistboards.com
