Bio: Shell/Carapace
Carapaces are “firm, yet polished, and supple as the situation demands” and also referred to as “rigid.” Dersites cannot blush, but for some reason Prospitians seem to be able to? That makes zero sense but it’s probably artistic license.

HC carapacian plating as like...it’s hard, but segmented, so if you stretch a part out (like, stretch your hand for an example of what i mean) you can see leathery skin between the segments and between joints. the stomach, for example, has to stretch and squish a Lot so it’s probably lacking in hard plating. carapacian soldiers are probably told to aim for the areas where segments connect. i’m not all that good with scientific terms, but apparently a touch-sensitive area in an exoskeleton is called a “campaniform.”
there =is= touch capacity with all parts of a carapacian, but shell is probably markedly less touch/pain sensitive than human skin is. this makes them overall more resilient to injury.
carapacians probably shed every once in a while. this is considered a private process to most and takes a few days, and isn’t exactly comfortable.
