Where are you originally from?
I am originally from (and will always have tremendous love for Long Island)
How did you get into your field of music? What genre of music do you classify your music?
I have been making music 1 way or another since I was around 4 years old...I got my MPC and started producing hip hop around 2001. Since then my music has molded into something I can't really classify...Some might say futuristic, spaced out beat music...
What music inspires you? Favorite artist?
I can go on for hours with this question...I would have to say that some major influences have been : Zappa, J Dilla, EyeHateGod, De La Soul...I'm greatly inspired by my friends, family & everyday soundscapes. As far as a "favorite" artist, I'm not really able to sum up that question... What kind did you start with? (software/instruments)
I started off with a drum kit when I was a tiny 4 year old, moved on to guitars, keyboards etc. Played in some hardcore/metal bands when I was a teen, got an MPC, went to audio engineering school in '04. I've been using Pro Tools since '03, I occasionally use Ableton in the studio, but mostly for live use only. My studio consists of guitars, synthesizers, lots of random percussion, a drum kit, MPC, vinyl, reel to reels & some other secret toys...
What do you want the crowd to get out of your music?
If I can get 1 out of every 100 listeners to get inspired to go make music, i'm happy...
How has your music evolved since you first started?
Since I first started making music it has gone (and continues to go) in many different directions. Today I might sit down and make a psych rock record, yesterday I was sampling some soul records...
Any future plans for your music/performances?
In the future I plan on doing what I've been doing, making music that I would want to listen to... I am always open for booking shows & collaborating with other artists. Last thoughts?
I'm working on my 1st full length album right now, along with 2 EP's from the 2 duo's I am a part of...Look out for The Mountain Collection (Chris Are X F.L.O.T.E) & yet to be named duo with Jim Carapezza & myself... For now there are 2 FREE Chris Are EP's available at www.chris-are.com For all info visit www.facebook.com/chrisare9
