I feel like sharing, so here’s a song I wrote which is a kind of nightmare based on a real thing I watched. It might also be called “posers die as well”
Our Band Won’t Be Your Life
The punk rock singer's aging parents came out here to watch him play He told them he got a write up in the newspaper today And blood sprays hot and red from a hole in the drummer's hand And I notice everybody looks like Jesus in this band
The guitarist plays his parts the way he did at seventeen He can shred a ripping solo, something brutal, something mean And the singer has a stick n poke Or maybe it's a scar Anna says she loves the older stuff Back then he used to sing straight from the heart
But if that's true then what is this? I wonder as they play the quiet song A paltry group of high school kids was dropped off by reluctant suburb moms And the singer looks defeated As he sighs into the mic He no longer believes that punk rock ever saved his or anyone's life
Now Anna's band is at the bar Not watching this play out with her I direct her gaze to the scar She tells me we've all got a curse I think that I could hold her fragile hand If I made the right overtures The world was once an awful place But at least it was simpler
Day 74, 239:21, 389-390
389. Chris Cappello - Could Be Bitter Forever - "Basically 60 minutes of listening to your ex whine at you over the phone" begins one review. It's a bit long-winded, certainly self-indulgent, a little desperate self-pity through a "I know I'm fucked up" lens, but a couple of moments really hit home. When you run out of Bright Eyes, give Chris a chance.
390. Watch for Wolves - Count It All in Joy - Cool post-hardcore/emo whatever stuff. I don't normally say this, but I feel like this release will stick eventually.
Playing a relatively rare solo show in Southbury CT next Friday, 1/9/15. Message me for the address if you're interested.
here's a song i wrote
chris cappello - "start a fire"
i leave my friends to meet you at night
but you don’t do the same for me
wish i could find the perfect balance
the mean of what this really means
you say you’re watching films with your best friend
but i know you don’t like her much
it makes me wonder what i’m doing
it makes me question my current conceptions of us
i don’t know if this is working out for me
i don’t know if this is working out for me
i don’t know if this is working out for me
i don’t know but i’m afraid to speak
i’m drinking by myself
i’m drinking by myself
i’m drinking by myself
i’m drinking by myself
i’ll grow my hair to lengths unrivaled
and paint my nails with black nail polish
and when you see me you’ll be stunned
that i’ve become the beautiful one
so start a flame in the smoking section
raise the fire to the heavens
wish i could be the perfect boyfriend
wish i could end my life without anybody knowing
'Cause I was sleeping on the floor when she left me, and I was sleeping in my bed by the time you came around. And my eyes were bright and open when you first picked me up, but they'll be shut before I even touch the ground. I'll be cold before I even hit the ground, and you'll be gone by the time I come around.
