Chris Klapper: Prana
PRANA consists of approximately 2000 hand-cast sphere-like shapes, spanning a 20-foot wall. Using light as its medium, PRANA translates various breathing responses to express the subtle interactions of life in its physical form. The installation utilizes a network of sensors by digital techniques and programmed processes to convey changes in the physical environment and interactions encountered with its audience. During this exchange, breath creates an intimate relationship between the viewer and the piece. PRANA, Sanskrit for “breath,” is responsible for the beating of the heart and bringing life to every cell throughout the circulatory system. The project becomes a statement on the interconnectedness of all things in nature, and in life. It is a sculptural installation constructed into an organic whole. The community and PRANA mutually engage in a physical conversation through both art and technology.
Partnered with Electrical Engineer Jen Lusker to create Prana.
Symphony in D Minor Patrick Gallagher and Chris Klapper
"Symphony in D Minor is an interactive sound and video installation on an epic scale. A thunderstorm contained within a series of large hand cast resin sculptures, each individual form is a unique instrument hanging 40 feet from the ceiling. Suspended just within reach and activated by touch, the viewer sets the symphony in motion by pushing the forms through the air to trigger the various sound elements of the storm."

Last night KJAK Projects, a new art space founded by Khaliya Aga Khan, previewed an upcoming interactive video&sound installation of epic scale and ambition.
Artists Patrick Gallagher and Chris Klapper combined nature, science, technology and art into what I think we all dream of - what it would be like to be a God - to "capture" the most powerful expressions of Nature, and to feel what it's like to control them with a touch of a fingertip.
Their show Symphony in D Minor will open later this year in a 7,000 sqf public art space in Philadelphia, where the visitors will experience Thunderstorms and Rain Contained in giant Transparent tubes which would come to life by the visitors' touch.
Many artists in the past attempted to capture ideas and worlds into a bottle. for example Mike Kelley witty bottled Kandor - Superman's hometown on Krypton, and the only surviving town after the planet was destroyed, which Superman minimized and kept in a jar.
And Symphony in D minor is particularly compelling and fresh in 2012 considering the environmental awareness and public art as a global dialogue.
