Sometimes I remember how well-written, well-acted and overall well-executed Skam was as a series. I feel so extremely lucky to have experienced it in my high-school years.
Isak coming out to Jonas is one of the best scenes in tv. I remember watching it feeling so anxious for him, and then that same anxiety slowly dissipating once he realises his friend doesn’t even care.
the cinematography in the moment she and nikola kissed was insane - the lights flickering, almost romantic but more unsettling because of the sudden change. For a moment, we’re inside Eva’s head - sadness mixed with confusion and impulsivity. Then the spotlight right before Ines walks in is CRAZY. A sudden feeling of shame - no longer any ambience - she’s thrust into the limelight and for a moment thinks she has to face accountability. Realises she is embarrassed and doesn’t actually want to kiss nix. Then, it’s over, they’re not caught - for now. The almost dream-like shift is over.
It’s a really interesting choice I haven’t seen a remake take before, to stray from reality and go into a characters mind. Maybe because Skam is centred on being relatable and therefore real. But the lighting is actually SUCH a clever way of understanding the characters on a deeper level.
Noorhelm, Chriseva (will they won't they predicament), Fluff
Summary: William gets persuaded into going out with Chris and ex Penetrators
Warnings: alcohol, swearing (like, a lot), using "schizophrenic"as an insult, sexual connotations, but no actual smut
Noora and William were laying on a couch, him on his phone and her with a textbook sprawled on her lap. She frowned when she raised her head towards the clock on the wall which read 22:45.
She nudged him with her leg and asked: „Shouldn't you be getting ready?“
-Hm?
-Shouldn't you be getting ready for that party with Chris?
He signed and looked on the clock with disinterest „I don't know if I still wanna go“
-Don't be like that, you've been excited for this for whole week. Go, you haven't seen each other in ages.
-Yeah but I'm so comfortable. We could stay in, order something to eat?
-Who are you? Are you sick?, she asked with amused smile on her lips. „If the 18-year-old you could hear himself, he would be beyond words.
He gave her a lovesick smile: “You've made me this way“
She smiled: “You are so cheesy.”
She stood up and took his hand, pulling him hard enough for him to take pity and stand up himself.
-Come on, we stay in all the time. You're either with me or studying, you will burn up at this rate. You have to go out, live a little.
He fixed his hair and through smile said: Are you trying to get me out of the apartment, is that it?
-Yes you caught me, my lover is coming in 20 minutes and you have to get out.
-I knew it. Say hi to Eva.
-As much as I love that idea, I have loads of coursework to catch up to, so I’m afraid it will be a quiet night in.
-Wait so you’re not coming with?, he said while pulling his unironed dress shirt over his head.
-To your college party? No thanks.
-Well what’s the fun in that?
-Come on William, you deserve to go out without me once in a while, get drunk or whatever you guys do on a night out. If you miss this and something interesting happens you will be sulking around the apartment for days on end and I won’t tolerate that. Besides, you barely go out with them anymore. I don’t want them to think I’m holding you hostage.”, she turns around to face him and frowns: “What are you doing? Take that off.”
-Gladly, he smiles, takes off his shirt in one swift motion and puts his arm around her waist, pulling her in for a kiss. As he tries to deepen the kiss and pull her towards the bed she turns her head to the side.
-Yeah good try but no, you’re going out but I cannot let you go like that. I am going to iron that while you get yourself decent.
He dramatically swung his head back and groaned as she chuckled and exited their room.
The bell of their front door rang and he went to open it up.
-Williammm, Chris shouted with bottle in his hand. “That’s quite a bold look but I dig it” he said while gesturing to his naked torso
-Good to see you too, they clapped their hands together, pulling each other in and bumping their shoulders, a tradition well-kept from their Penetrator days.
Chris entered the apartment and spotted Noora in front of ironing board -Hi Noora, he said with his exaggerated grin, raising brows at William
-Hi, she muttered just as she was taking the dress shirt off the ironing board and handing it to William.
When he got dressed, Noora put her arm on his back and started pushing him towards the front door so fast he nearly missed grabbing his wallet and keys.
-Please take him before he changes his mind, she said to Chris.
When the two boys exited Chris turned to William.
-How the fuck did you get so lucky. She is there just casually ironing your shirt and then urging you to get out?
William smiled fondly: “I have no idea”
Reliving their glory days, they started off strong, downing drink after drink. After recalling their past debaucheries, catching up and even some dancing, William and Chris found themselves on the couch, William silently observing the crowd and Chris looking at his phone every few minutes.
-Ok that is the seventh time you’ve looked at that, what is going on with you?, William, although a bit slower than usual, asked him
-Nothing, he tried to be casual, but in his state of inebriation, failed miserably.
William just looked at him with raised eyebrows and slight smirk. Cris put away his phone and took a big swing out of his bottle. A few seconds later, he completely forgot about the situation at hand and took the phone back out that William snatched up immediately.
-What the fuck? Give it back!
-You are staring at a blank screen every few minutes you look schizo.
-Fuck off, he says as he hopelessly tries to retrieve it out of William’s firm grasp
William, knowing Chris’ password, unlocked his phone. Chat with Eva appeared on the screen, the text on the bottom reading “Hey, do you wanna go out this weekend?”.
-What’s the big deal? Send it., confused William looked at his friend.
-She’ll say no.
-I bet you have another one on speed dial.
Chris looked down, avoiding his friend’s gaze.
-My god! You like her.
-Pfft no.
-Then send the text you have nothing to lose.
-Nope.
-So when did this happen? You slept together, right? And now, you caught feelings while she’s clueless, William guessed, a shit eating grin on his face.
-I did not catch feelings.
-Right. And when did you last get laid?
-Fuck off.
-Do you want me to ask Noora to talk to her?
-Don’t you dare. Don’t say anything to Noora or I’ll kill you, Chris said sternly, looking into his eyes and pulling him closer by the collar of his shirt.
William raised his hands in surrender, surprised by the seriousness and urgency of Chris’ voice.
-Ok.
-Promise you won’t tell Noora anything. I know you got that thing where you tell each other everything but I really need you to shut the fuck up just this one time.
-Ok, I promise. But I still think you should send that text.
-Its like, Chris searches for the right words, not wanting to sound too desperate, but decides against it. It’s William. He was the definition of desperate. Still is. He will understand.
-She gets me. Somehow. And yes, we have sex and its great, but I feel like I actually want to spend time with her. I think she is still sleeping with that idiot. Jonas., he says bitterly, Which is fine. We aren’t together or anything.
-But you want to be?, William asks, already knowing the answer.
-Dude, you are not listening to me. I saw her hanging out with him again.
-Yeah, you’re fucked.
William stumbled into the apartment, knocking out a few items on the way in. Noora heard the commotion and turned on her side, now facing the bedroom door, and waiting for her boyfriend to lay next to her. She hears him dropping his keys into bowl by the front door, walking through the apartment while stumbling into things at least three times, which has made her laugh out loud into her palm covered by the blanket. After a few seconds, the door to their bedroom is finally opened by haggard looking William, his hair sticking out and four buttons of his shirt already undone. He lowered his glass on bedside table and drops unceremoniously onto his side of the bed head first.
-Did you have a good time?
He raised his head slightly and turned it towards her face – I missed you soo much
-You’ve only been out for like… , she took a look at her phone laying on the bedside table,
Three hours.
-Yeah and that was three hours too much without you.
He grabbed her head with his hand, starting to slowly kiss her, which quickly turned more heated and passionate. He slipped his free hand under her shirt, but she stops him.
-What?
-We cannot sleep together when you’re drunk like this. I don’t want to use you.
-But I’m asking you to use me, he pleads as she shakes her head with a fond smirk.
-Absolutely not. Besides, she says with a teasing smirk, I don’t think you could get it up in this state.
-Rude, he answers with his head in the pillow.
He sighed, then stole another kiss from her, then a second, then a third. She smiled into him, remembering how alcohol always makes him more clingy that usual. He encircled her torso with his arm and put his head on her collar bone.
-Did you have fun?, she asked again with her hand entangled in his hair.
- ‘t was great ‘n all but I just wish you could’ve come. I kept thinking how I want to be with you and make out. Chris has been talking the whole night about Eva. Says she doesn’t want anything serious or whatever. Saw her with Jonas or something. Then we all had to take shots with him. I think he is in love with her. But don’t tell Noora he made me swear I wouldn’t so she doesn’t tell Eva, which is hard inin of itself, I tell her everything.,
he answered half-asleep, leaving Noora to decipher his drunken mumblings.
The sun isn’t even up when she hears the sheets moving and the doors to the bathroom open. Next, she hears him retching. Already wide awake she sprints to the bathroom.
-Poor baby, she says, her mocking lacking the usual bite as she feels bad for him. She rubs his back but notices his hair is in his way. She reaches for the hair tie around her wrist and gathers his hair on the top of his head, making a little palm tree. When he finishes, he rinses out his mouth while she waits for him in the bed. He lays next to her and mumbles
-My head is killing me. I’m not moving from here for the next week.
She rubs little circles on his back as he settles in, which make him relax enough to fall back asleep.
The next time William wakes up, the curtains are closed, blocking out any sunlight. When he turns to his side, he sees a pack of ibuprofen and a glass of water on his bedside table. He takes one and washes it down with a big gulp of water, squinting like a child. As on cue, Noora walks in.
-You’re awake. Are you ok?
-My head hurts but I just downed the tablet so I should be good.
-Mhm, she answers somewhat absent mindedly, Can I ask you something? But it can wait if you’re still feeling bad.
His mind starts racing, imagining what on Earth he said this time, or worse, did.
-No, no, we can do it now., he said, raising from their bed too fast, which he soon regretted.
-It’s nothing too serious really, she answered while putting her hand on his head to relieve some pressure and laying down next to him.
-I was just wondering if you could talk to Chris? Eva just called me and said that she doesn’t know where they stand. He kind of implied he wants to be with her, but she isn’t sure if he was just joking or if he was being for real., she asked him, carefully leaving out the fact that he basically solved the problem at hand with his drunken mumbling yesterday.
Eva really did complain about her situation with Chris, but as much as she loves Eva, she loves William as well. And he is a loyal partner to her as much as he is a loyal friend to Chris. This way, he won’t ever find out he told her everything, but she will give him necessary information that she hopes Chris will utilize smartly. Besides, it is way more romantic for them to end up together this way, than for Noora to call Eva and retell everything that William told her.
-Of course, no problem.
She saw him trying to be nonchalant, but she did see the small smirk playing on his lips, thinking that the answer to his friend’s love troubles just fell into his lap. She also saw him trying to find a way to quickly change the subject.
-You know, if you come a little closer, you wouldn’t be taking an advantage of me right now, I am as sober as I can be.
-You are literally in a dark room with a massive hungover, barely holding your eyes open.
-Yes but I’ve been thinking, if you move really slowly, he didn’t get to finish the sentence before Noora shoves him off and stands up with an amused smile.
-Go back to sleep. And then call Chris. You’re unbelievable.
Waking up that sunny spring morning, Chris felt his heart beat faster when he saw Eva nearby. The warmth of her body, the soft breath and the peace she brought made him realize how important she had become in his life. He never thought that simple moments could be so meaningful, but at that moment everything fell into place.
When Eva rolled over and opened her eyes, Chris felt his soul filled with happiness. He knew it wasn't just another birthday, but an opportunity to celebrate it with the man who became everything to him. "Today is my birthday and I want to spend it with you here in bed, hugging you and enjoying your presence in my apartment," he said, trying to convey all his feelings in these simple words.
Mohn, still being a little sleepy, smiled, and that was what Chris needed. He could feel his heart blossoming as she responded, "That sounds perfect." They both knew that at this moment there was no need to rush anywhere, no need to think about business or plans. The whole world disappeared, leaving only the two of them, clasped in arms, enjoying the silence and warmth of each other.
Chris dreamed of this moment lasting forever. He imagined how they wake up together in the morning, drink coffee, laugh, share dreams and plans for the future. It was more than just a desire to spend a birthday in bed; it was the desire for a life together, for every morning to begin with Eva's smile nearby.
They spent several hours just lying in bed, hugging and talking about everything. Chris talked about his dreams, and Eva shared her thoughts on how important it is to appreciate simple moments. They laughed, joked, and at that moment Chris realized that he had found his real half.
This birthday was not only a holiday for him, but also the beginning of a new stage in his life, where he would like to share every moment with Eva. Despite their uncertainty about the future, everything seemed to be possible at that moment, and this was the most significant thing.
